Default Which have better Fish: Captain D's or Long John Silver's fast food

I have both Captain D'S and Long John Silver in my neighborhood and usually get the Fish Meal (two pieces of fish, Fries and Hushpuppies) from either fast food restaurant. To me the fish fillet from Captain D's tasted much better than fish from LGS. The breading for the fish fry is what set them apart and the ones from Captain D's have much better flavor, crispiness and after taste.

So I prefer Captain D's

Long John Silver's has great fish. No one goes there for the lousy fries, though. You can substitute more hushpuppies (which are 6 to a side not just 2), they also have sides like corn. I might have been to Captain D's a long time ago, as I recall wasn't impressed.

Sometimes they do tend to cook the fish or Hushpuppies too long, making them greasy, too dark with burnt flavor. Especially when they are about to close up. So I guess it also depend on what time of day and who is doing the cooking in the back.

It depends on what mood I'm in. We lost our Long John Silver's and I really miss it.

I used to LOVE Captain D's, but in the past few years their food has changed. I still eat there, but the food is different. Their chicken has really changed, it has a "wang" now that I don't care for, but it used to be SOOOOO GOOD! I go and keep hoping they change back

I like them both. Like LJS’s chicken better but Captain D’s has the cajun fried fish which is pretty good LJS has recently changed their fries over to waffle fries.

I only get Fish from Captain D's and usually pass over the chicken or baked fish. Most people tend to order only fried fish or shrimp from menu items, so their chicken probably sit under the heat lamp for while before somebody order one.

I never had Cajun fries fish, so probably check it out next time going there. One thing I have noticed lately is how their menu prices have jumped, even with coupons. I used to get two piece Fish&Fries for $2.99 with coupons, and now it is is $5.99 with coupons.

My grandma was a big fan of seafood and every time my family would go visit her on vacations we would always take her to Long John Silver's and Long John Silver's has great tasting fish and I used to have a Long John Silver's that was a combo KFC too and it was really good but today it has closed. I have never heard of Captain D's because I don't have one. But in restaurants seafood restaurants had always become king with restaurant chains like Skipper's and Red Lobster but in fast food Long John Silver's was king while Arthur Treacher's Fish And Chips was second but these days it's hard to find a good seafood restaurant that serves good seafood. What's Captain D's like? Is their food good and how is it?

Captain D's and Long Joh Silver are like twin brothers. They are both fast-food, have drive thru and serve their menu meals on Styrofoam plates. Their main menu items are fried fish, fried shrimp and fish sandwich. To me, tempura batter breading for the fish from Captain D's taste better than fish breading from LGS.

I also loved their country style fish, it was different from the catfish. But if I put sweet and sour on the chicken now, it's edible, but used to it was the BEST.

Most people don't know but Captain D's originally did not specialize solely in seafood, when it opened in 1969, it was more of a burger place called Mr. D's Hamburgers and Seafood, owned by Shoney's. But then they decided to go all seafood, but I remember at ours you could STILL get a hamburger for quite a while, I don't think you can now though.

We lost our Shoney's too and I miss it!

To add to that, a few of the Shoney’s locations near me still have a Captain D’s right next door. I figure they were built side-by-side when they were under the same ownership. I still hit up the Shoney’s breakfast buffet (“breakfast bar” as they call it) from time to time.

That is funny as also in my neighborhood Shoney's and Captain D's were next door neighbors. Sadly Shoney's closed its doors about 10 years ago, but Captain D's still going strong.

Back when I worked at the movie theater, it became a tradition that Shoney's, Captain D's, Pizza Hut and Burger King became my Sunday night dinner places, after the matinee. And it just kinda stuck. lol Pizza Hut and Captain D's were side by side, now Captain D's is in a new location down the street, Shoney's is gone.
