Default Hasbro should've let Hub Network stay alive

When you take a successful toy company and try to create a TV network sometimes the idea works but sometimes the idea doesn't always work. I think Hasbro was wrong to buy Discovery Kids and transform it into Hub Network because in their eyes they saw this channel as a way to market Hasbro toys as a 24-hour commercial. But I think why Hub Network got decent ratings was because they had My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic and that show was the reason why My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic toys were selling at toy stores. But what they also could've added to Hub Network was the original My Little Pony cartoon series from 1986-1987 and as a diehard My Little Pony fan I would've loved seeing that series again. But what I think would've made Hub Network survive is that they could've had a vintage game show block at night with reruns of Chuck Woolery's Scrabble Trivial Pursuit Press Your Luck and Name That Tune and it would've worked marvelously. In the sitcoms I would've had Hub air Small Wonder Square Pegs Charles In Charge and The Waltons. Basically I feel that this channel failed because some people found the lineup unappealing and felt more like Nickelodeon and Nick At Nite but I can understand why it became Discovery Family because people wanted more educational programming for their kids

I also think with Hub Network Hasbro was trying to make Hub Network be like Nickelodeon. Because when you get the general picture I think Hasbro had a lot of high hopes for Hub Network before it debuted and when you have a cable network owned by a toy company you expect to attract kids and families. The one thing I could never figure out about Hub Network is that you never saw any other original game shows besides Hasbro Family Game Night and why I think Hasbro Family Game Night got big ratings for Hub Network was because the show had Todd Newton as the host and it seemed that when you put Todd Newton as the host of any game show he makes the game show a hit similar to what the late Regis Philbin did. But Hub Network should've had more original game shows besides Scrabble Showdown and Pictureka. While in the sitcom lineup Hub Network should've added California Dreams Hang Time The Nanny Webster and Head Of The Class and Everybody Loves Raymond to join Family Ties and Blossom. But Hub Network's biggest obsession was animated series and why My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic was their smash hit was because it was a way to market and sell new My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic toys by introducing new characters in each season. But Hub Network should've had more reruns of 80's cartoon classics like the original My Little Pony cartoon and Moondreamers also. But they survived on GI Joe and Jem And The Holograms reruns and more Hasbro 80's cartoons should've been added to Hub Network. Basically I think once ratings became weaker and weaker Hub Network should've adopted a new image to the channel and that could've saved them

What I think Hub Network should've done to save itself was try to have an adult lineup for adults to watch while the kids were asleep and it would've had sitcoms like Murphy Brown Newsradio The Drew Carey Show Spin City Designing Women and the original Night Court from 1984 and movies like Moonstruck and Days Of Thunder and it would've worked for Hub Network and fit them like a glove. Because when most family oriented channels began they would have an adult oriented lineup to watch after putting the kids to bed so adults could watch an hour of TV themselves. But I think what really caused the early death of Hub Network was the commercials they had and some didn't really attract families. Like Marriott Residence Inn commercials McDonald's commercials and commercials for household cleaning products such as Mr. Clean and Tide and you would see mostly Hasbro toy commercials during Hub's cartoons. And this I think made Hub Network go belly up and lose viewership completely. But I think Hasbro in the future should create a kids cartoon streaming service that features original cartoons as well as reruns of My Little Pony Transformers and other cartoons and it would work successfully

If you were to ask anyone the biggest mistake Hasbro did the correct answer that people would possibly say would be doing away with Hub Network and I think in general Hasbro was wrong to get rid of Hub Network because this channel had so much going for it. But in all honesty I think what really caused Hub Network's surprising death was Hasbro had overspent money trying to promote the channel and they could've given Hub Network a new image rather than rename it Discovery Family Channel. Because I think they were aiming to air educational shows for children and I think Hub Network was trying to copy PBS Kids. But what I see of this was Hasbro trying to go for a The Family Channel like vibe and they thought that was what Hub Network was going to be like
