Default Show stopping after season 2

'Osbournes' Finished After This Season, Sharon Says
Mon, Nov 4, 2002 05:46 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Sharon Osbourne is just about through letting MTV record every moment of her and her family's life.

In an interview with Barbara Walters to be broadcast on ABC's "20/20" Wednesday (Nov. 6), Osbourne says "this is definitely the last year" for "The Osbournes" on MTV. "We can't do it anymore."

The second 10-episode season of MTV's hugely successful reality series is scheduled to premiere Tuesday, Nov. 26. In addition to following the lives of the Osbourne family -- rock legend Ozzy, Sharon and kids Jack and Kelly -- the show will also document Sharon's ongoing treatment for colon cancer.

Sharon Osbourne tells Walters the primary reason she wants to end the show is that it has "changed us all so much," the AP reports.

"Because it's a moment in time, when we were innocent to it all, we went in feet first, and you can't re-create that," she says. "[This season] people will see what the first series has done to our lives, and it will take people to the next stage. But after that, it's over."

MTV hasn't commented on Osbourne's statement.

The "20/20" segment also includes an interview with Aimee Osbourne, Kelly and Jack's older sister, who chose not to take part in the MTV series. She says she worries about her mom's cancer and how her dad will cope if something happens to Sharon (her prognosis is good).

"I don't think he even wants to know what life will be like without her," Aimee Osbourne says.

The "20/20" special airs at 10 p.m. ET Wednesday.

Default Another news bit...maybe it stays

'Osbournes' Matriarch Backtracks, Says Show Will Stay
Tue, Nov 5, 2002 03:30 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Sharon Osbourne may have spoken a little prematurely when she told Barbara Walters that "The Osbournes" would leave MTV after the coming season.

Executives at the cable channel were surprised Monday (Nov. 4) when, in a transcript of a "20/20" interview released by ABC, Osbourne said this would be "definitely the last year" for the family's reality series.

"I think if we were to do it over again, we wouldn't have done the show," she tells Walters. The interview is scheduled to air on a special "20/20" at 10 p.m. ET Wednesday.

"I was totally unaware of [Osbourne's statement]," MTV president Van Toffler tells The New York Times. The family has a contract to do at least 20 more episodes of "The Osbournes," which follows Sharon, her rock-star husband Ozzy and kids Jack and Kelly as they go about their profanity-filled everyday lives.

Sharon Osbourne issued a statement late Monday, after the ABC transcript was released, saying she remains committed to the show. "I have every intention of fulfilling our commitment to MTV for a full 20 episodes," she says. "I love my MTV."

Toffler says he was upset that ABC didn't check Osbourne's statements about ending the show with the network. The interview took place Sept. 28.

Walters, for her part, tells the Times that because the interview was not a hard-news subject and Osbourne herself was the source, she didn't think there was a need to double-check. She also says Osbourne hasn't contacted her to recant anything.

"All I know is she had from Sept. 28 to Nov. 4 to say 'I didn't mean it,' and she didn't do it," Walters says.
