I am sad to report the passing of soap great Tristan Rogers, who so famously played Robert Scorpio on "General Hospital" over a span of 45 years.
His longtime manager, Meryl Soodak, told me he died this morning at the age of 79 after a battle with lung cancer. She noted that Tristan was never a smoker.
Of his role on the show, Meryl told me, "It meant everything to him." She added, "He loved being Scorpio and he created that role from nothing. He was supposed to work a day and he ended up making it into something huge. He was just a genuinely loyal, kind human being and he loved his family."
Tristan leaves behind a wife, two children and a grandchild.
I interviewed Tristan several times over the years on my set visits to "General Hospital." He was always funny and friendly.
