Default Episode 1, Pilot - Weekly Episode Discussion

Alrighty, since I suggested this week's pick I guess I should actually comment on it.

This episode is really one of the best. How could it not be? The start of it all. My favourite part is when Venus comes into Carlson's office just as Andy had got things settled down... ahh that whole scene is classic.

I don't really have much more to add because t's really been a long time since I've seen this episode, and I unfortunately don't have it on tape. But I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys think about it

my comments about this episode
this maybe the best pilot for a sitcom in the history of television with cheers being close second.
while filming this episode richard sanders cut his
head on the set of the show starting the gag about les nessman wearing a bandage in every episode!
its funny to see how much the characters change in latter seasons.
especially venus flytrap(first he's the radical dj in this first episode ,then the former songwriter and musician in "a commercial break" a vietnam deserter in"who is gordon sims" and a former high school science teacher in "venus and the man")
venus flytrap maybe the most complex character ever in a sitcom.
bailey quarters starts out as the shy character in the cast, but blossoms into a self confident newsreporter and the more attractive of the two women on the show!(in my opinion)
jennifer starts out as a blonde bombshell in this first episode and evolves in latter episodes into a wise earth mother.
jennifer marlowe maybe the smartest character ever
in a sitcom.
my favorite scene in this episode is when arthur carlson stands up to his mother.
mother carlson is one of my favorite villians ever in a sitcom.

for those of you who don't have this episode on videotape it is available cheap on e-bay and half.com!
just make sure you buy the mtm home video version released in 1992 its has PILOT PART ONE AND PILOT PART TWO uncut with original music!
the only bad thing is the tape is in ep(slp) mode
but its worth it to watch this episode the way it was meant to be seen with the first rock song dr. johnny fever plays "queen of the forest" by ted nugent and "dance dance dance" by chic which venus
flytrap plays in the closing scene.

I like how Herb and Les suck up to Travis and then when Carlson comes down and says, Travis your fired. And Herb goes I new you wouldn't last and takes off with Carlson. And also when Johnny says BOOGER!!

Cool

I watched while I was doing my homework. It was kind of interesting to pick out where the cuts scenes were. One of the funniest things in that ep is Johnny playing that song, "you're having OUR baby" by the m-t choir. I was getting ready to sing along and laugh and it wasnt there. And of course so much of Venus's footage was cut. My favorite of the pilot is actually the second part - "I've killed a lot of old people in my time!"

I liked the way Carlson was around his mother and when Les met Venus for the first time. It was good to see Dr. Johnny Fever again. When he started to play those rock songs, it was a riot. I also liked the way Herb was around Jennifer. I agree that the WKRP pilot was one of the best.

I have, and taped it. It's pretty interesting. For those who are eager for Pt. 2 of the pilot, it's tonight, and I'll be ready also. Dr. Johnny adjusting to rock music, and saying 'Booger' was unbelievable. Anyway, I used to watch WKRP on KBWB-20 (Then KOFY) in the mid-90's, and taped some eps. I got rid of them, though. Now on a stronger network, TV Land, I have another shot to get my favorites, assuming they keep this show for awhile. Especially since they usually don't have a show for a long period in the 'Kitschen'.
