If you have lost your social security card.. how do you go about replacing it? It was in my wallet and I've lost it.

You probably have to call your local Social Security Office. It's too bad you lost it. A person's SS# can open doors to theft identity if it gets in the wrong hands. I used to carry my card with me, but a friend spotted it once and advised me not to. My number is memorized, and if I need the card, I'm going to know in advance.
Good luck. |

Actually, on most applications for jobs, credit cards, loans, etc, you'll just have to write the number down. The business runs a check on your SS number. I bought my home and didn't have to show my SS card--just wrote the number on the loan application for the mortgage. I've never needed the card to renew my license here in Massachusetts, but the laws may vary in other States. |

I went through this last year. I needed the card itself when I started working for the company I work for now, they wouldn't settle for just the number. I took my drivers license down to the SS office and had to fill out some forms. They mailed a new card to me a couple of weeks later. In NJ, you don't need it to renew your license.
