Why was Debby Boone such a hit star of the 70's?

I never have figured out how in the world Debby Boone became a big star in the 70's? Was it because they hoped Debby would become as big as her father Pat Boone or was it because Debby Boone had star quality? Because I never figured out how You Light Up My Life became Debby Boone's signature hit? Because the very time I heard that song was when my mom got a Debby Boone cassette and Mom showed me the song You Light Up My Life and I can see why it became a huge hit for Debby Boone because it's a wonderful song and I also found out that Debby Boone went on to sing Christian music but has done commercials and released more albums of easy listening music today
