It sounds like you’re saying that sarcastically but that actually sounds logical.

The Western channel Grit is the second-most popular subchannel after MeTV, so it makes sense to broadcast in that genre.

This might reduce the Western bloc on MeTV a bit, as they wouldn't be so eager to air Western v. Western.

It's unknown atm, but it'll most likely be most, but not all of them.
They'll mostly keep Gunsmoke and Bonanza.

This continues the streak of Weigel broadcasting launching a new channel every year:

2021 - MeTV Plus
2022 - Story Television
2023 - Catchy Comedy
2024 - MeTV Toons
2025 - WEST

I'm glad they're moving the Westerns out of MeTV main and plus channels. Although I expect Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and The Rifleman to stay. As far as I can remember since the launch of MeTV going national like 15 years ago, those three shows have always been on air at those timeslots. It's never going away.

I hope they bring back more action/drama shows. We really need a shakeup in the afternoon lineup and hopefully it happens. It was a miracle Twilight Zone airs earlier at 11pm and they put Dragnet on at 12:35am as of June 2025. Just the slightest change in the weekday/night lineup is like a breath of fresh air.

If every western gets shifted into the new west channel then MeTV will look very different this September. Don’t get me wrong

Why would METV remove westerns? METV is the mothership, if something works for that station it will stay in the rotation. Assuming the westerns aired, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Riflemen, and Wagon Train maintain their numbers I don't think a change will be made, WEST just won't program those titles during the afternoon block. Catchy Comedy shows ALL in the Family, Dick Van Dyke, MASH and several others that appear on METV, I don't think it will be an issue. METV has a more extensive line-up of westerns on Saturday, maybe Weigel may think about tinkering with that at some point in the future.

I’d be glad for the westerns to go although some will probably stay. I just hope they add more sitcoms.

Groan.. I think it is a bad idea for a new network. There are already two western diginets that show both movies and shows. On top of that, METV, MeTV+ and H&I all show 4 or more hours of the same Western shows everyday. This is not even touching on PlutoTV that has entire channels dedicated to the above-mentioned Western shows.

These days when it comes to anything westerns no matter if they are movies or shows westerns seem to have gone extinct as dinosaurs and with channels such as Grit and Heroes And Icons and METV as well as FETV and INSP airing westerns it has become hard to find an all westerns channel besides Grit. What I think Weigel is doing is VERY smart and I think they will do with West is possibly add some westerns that haven't been seen on TV in years such as Sky King Hopalong Cassidy and add shows like The Big Valley and perhaps add John Wayne movies like True Grit Shane and Hondo and if West is successful they will also add 80's westerns like The Young Riders that originally aired on ABC in 1989 and add classic 80s/90's western movies as well. I think West will take some of the westerns that METV has and possibly make Grit go belly up and just like with the other Weigel owned networks it will also be added to the Frindly TV app. Because as I mentioned western channels seem to be scarce and West will finally fit the bill of every westerns fan
