Default Odd 'NURSES' reference

As you already know, the show Nurses was a spinoff of Golden Girls/Empty Nest and therefore featured crossovers between the characters. In the first season of Nurses, Rose and Blanche appear in different episodes however during the second season there's an episode where Paco wins the lottery and another cast member says he picked The Golden Girls bra sizes as his winning numbers, which is odd cause they're now referring to them as "fictional" characters in a tv show instead of "real" people they met before. And in yet another episode aired after this comment in the 3rd season, Sophia accompanies Carol to her natural childbirth classes.

Nurses aired from September 1991 until May 1994 as a part of the NBC Saturday night line-up. It was briefly aired in syndication on Lifetime around 1996 and on various local syndicates throughout the years. The show was set in Miami like its sister shows and took place at the same hospital Harry Weston worked at, Community Medical Center. It was also created and produced by Witt/Thomas/Harris Productions with many of the same people of GG'S and EN's crew involved. Bea Arthur never appeared to my knowledge, however, Betty White, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty appeared as their Golden Girls characters as well as most of the cast of Empty Nest including Richard Mulligan, Dinah Manoff, Park Overall, David Leisure and of course Dreyfuss. However, as far as I know the cast of Nurses never crossed over to Empty Nest or Golden Girls with the exception of Loni Andersons character who was dating Harry Weston for a short time. Nurses began during GG's last season and there's an episode that ties in with NBC's hurricane Saturday themed episodes i.e. the hurricane ep. of Golden Girls and Empty Nest. The series is largely forgettable by the tv viewing audience and critics at the time but being the avid NBC Saturday night viewer I was, thought it was great and still do. I liken it to Night Court set in a hospital in the sense that they always had whacky patients in and out and that the cast was made up of virtual unknowns at the time like Night Court when it premiered, so it was an ensemble instead of a one man show and the characters were so great. Especially Jack Trenton played by David Rasche (Sledge Hammer). He played a convict on probation sentenced to community service at the hospital or as he liked to call it, the "bacteria barn". His character was a white collar criminal convicted of insider trading and he had this conman persona. His antics were so funny, he was always scheming like Dan was on Night Court, and had as his reluctant sidekick a mexican orderly named Paco, or as Jack referred to him "mop jockey" in on his schemes. Out of GG and EN, Nurses is my favorite of the 3. It never did find an audience, they had various cast changes during the 3 seasons and NBC kept revamping it. The core cast was Stephanie Hodge as Nurse Sandy Miller for the 1st 2 seasons (Laverne's from Empty Nest best friend.they both shared a southern accent), Arnetia Walker as Head Nurse Annie Roland (she was an african american actress), Ada Maris as Nurse Gina Cuevas (her character was puerto rican and had a thick spanish accent), Mary Jo Keenen as Nurse Julie Milbury (she had a similar personality as Rose Nylund), Kip Gilman as Dr. Hank Kaplan, Carlos Lacamara as Paco Ortiz, Jeff Altman as Nurse Greg Vincent (1st season only), Florence Stanley as Dr. Amanda Riskin (1st season only), Marcus Flanagan as Nurse Luke Fitzgerald (he had a loner type persona with a dark sense of humor. 2nd season only) David Rasche as Jack Trenton (season 2-3) and Loni Anderson as hospital administrator Casey Macaphee (season 3).
