Did Redd Foxx really have a cocaine habit? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

The other day I read an article from a TV website (I forgot the site). The article was called "The Ironic Death Of Redd Foxx". In it, it says Redd was notorious for his cocaine use during Sanford And Son, and that all his money went up his nose. Is this true? I was disturbed to hear this, but maybe it`s a false statement. Of course, I have heard the same about Demond Wilson, even though now he has changed his life and has become a minister. The main thing is the humor they gave us. I`d like to think this story is not true.....

I'm not really sure how to answer your question, because I don't really know. Anything could be possible. If it came from a very reliable source, then it might be true. If it came from a tabloid, it might be either true or false.

I kind of got the feeling Demond was on something towards the later years of Sanford and Son. Once again, I'm not sure. I remember in some episodes he would wear those sun glasses in the house. I don't know if the writers purposely did that or Demond wore them to hide his eyes if he had shot something up, or something.

Once again, I do not know. You're right though. The main thing they brought us was entertainment.

I've heard stories about both of them having problems with cocaine. There was something that I read online somewhere about Redd Foxx often snorting cocaine out of a gold spoon that he liked to wear around his neck. That could just be a rumor. I do remember seeing Tony Orlando on Entertainment Tonight a couple of weeks ago. Tony stated that Redd had introduced him to cocaine. As for Demond Wilson, there is the notorious rumor about him once chasing Norman Lear down a hallway with a gun while high on cocaine. From what I understand Demond has been clean for about 20 years now.
