Exclamation Declining Invitations

Can anyone help me? I've got a problem. This girl in my classes who I don't really hang out with, nor do I like, invited me to the movies on Friday. I said no because I was sick, (I honestly was) but then she said "Ok, next Saturday?" and I'm like "Yeah, sure" but I REEEEEEEEEALLY don't want to go.

Should I go and get it over with, or...? How do I get out of it?!

You could just grit your teeth and go and get it over with. But if you really, really don't wanna go then just phone her the night before and tell her that some relative from overseas is coming to visit your family and your parents have told you that you have to be there. Either that or tell her that you've got really bad period cramps - noone's gonna argue with that!

Uuuuggh, I have to decline invitations A LOT. It's really hard to say no, especially since the person really really really wants you to go, lol. But anyways, I usually just go along with gritted teeth.

Eh. Depends on how much you cant stand her. If shes nice to you..why not give it a try? Its the movies..not a whole lot of talking!! LOl. If youre getting a ride their, have your ride pick you up RIGHT AFTER the movies and make an excuse like "Oh, I have to be up early tomorrow" or something. If you really dont want to go, and you kinda already said yes, just be like "I forgot its (relative) birthday party. Maybe some other time" Try to sound a lil enthused about it show she doesnt think you hate her. Yeah, you may not like her..but I dont think youd wanna hurt her feelings too. Good Luck

Ugh, this isn't going good. Elizabeth will be in Providence all weekend and Allyssa will be in New York, and I don't really have more friends who I can stand enough to go. Guess I'll have to grit my teeth and get it over with!

Thanks for your suggestions, guys!

Whatever you say can't be as bad as what one of my old friends said when I invited her to go out with me and a new friend. She didn't want to go because she didn't like the new friend so she said, "I have to bathe my cousin.". Her little cousin was over for a week or two because the mom was in some sort of trouble. But we were like 14 at the time and her mother was home so she could of done it. It was an obvious excuse especially since the kid looked like she could bathe herself. Other times she'd say she had to go to the grocery store with her mother.

Let me think for a second. It really sounds as if you don't want to go, and I can understand that part. However, I think it's kind of the wrong way to go if you make up a lie to get out of it. Let's say you told this person that you had a babysitting job that day and the next day the person calls up and asks you how your babysitting job went, it might pop out that you didn't have to babysit. The same with the 'grounding' bit. If you say you are grounded and your parents forbid you from going to the movies, it might slip out that you weren't grounded.

I think in this case you should go. Like the others said, you might find a new friend. You def. know this person better than I do, and the person might drive you up the wall. If that is the case, you could always say that you can only stay at the movies for a little while but you have something very important to do later on.

In this case, the person might ask you what you have to do. That may be a problem. Okay, does this person have a lot of classes with you? You could always say that you have to study for a killer test for Monday. Then when you do get home from the movies, you can study for a few minutes and you know that you actually did study. That wouldn't be a lie would it? Not if you did come home and open the book and study for about 5 minutes. It would've been a lie if you said you had to study, but you didn't study.

Just tell her you can go to the movie, and nothing else. I mean, you're gonna be watchin a movie. The only time she can get on your nerves is before and after...

Yeah, your right Jenny. Sadly though, she's in all my classes lol. I'll tell her I need to go do chores after the movie. I'll go home and make my bed (something I never do) but that won't be lying, would it? Oh well. I'll figure something out by next Saturday. Hell, maybe I could invite my cousins over and say the are from over seas, lol.

That sucks she's in all of your classes. I wouldn't count making the bed as lying. Hey, it's a chore right? You might not clean the whole house up, but you did do a chore. That isn't lying.

If you're going to lie, at least pretend like you're either pissed off or upset, (pissed off at ur rents b/c they wont let you go, and you "REALLLLLLY" wanted to, or ur sad b/c you "REALLLLLLY" wanted to). Except, this chick seems sorta persistent, sooooo, she'll probs keep arranging new dates. haha
