Default Blu-ray Request: Bosom Buddies: The Complete Series

Dear Brian Robbins,

I have a proposal for Paramount Home Entertainment: to issue and release, on September 6, 2022, "Bosom Buddies: The Complete Series," showcasing all 37 half-hour episodes of the critically-acclaimed yet criminally short-lived '80s sitcom "Bosom Buddies" 100% Complete, 100% Uncut, AND 100% Unedited, just the way that each episode originally aired on ABC.

Created by Chris Thompson, "Bosom Buddies" originally aired on the ABC Television Network for 2 seasons from November 27, 1980 - March 25, 1982.

The series cast Tom Hanks (the future Box Office success star) & Peter Scolari (futurely of the '80s sitcom "Newhart") as, respectively, Thomas Amos "Kip" Wilson & Henry Desmond, 2 life-long Best friends & Transplants based in New York City, New York (via Ohio) who, at the start of the series, discovered that their Apartment building was being torn down.

At the suggestion of colleague Amy Cassidy (Wendie Jo Sperber), who had a BIG-TIME Crush on Henry, Kip & Henry decided to move into Amy's Apartment Building in NYC--The Problem: it was an All-Female Residence--The Susan B. Anthony Hotel, "A Residence For Women."

Other Principal Characters included fellow Apartment Building Residents Sonny Lument (Donna Dixon, futurely married to Dan Aykroyd), whom Kip instantly fell in love with at first sight despite being dressed as a Woman; Isabelle Hammond (Telma Hopkins, futurely of the '80s sitcom "Family Matters"), an Aspiring Actress & Singer; and Ruth Dunbar (Holland Taylor, futurely of the hit 2000s sitcom "Two and a Half Men"), Kip, Henry, & Amy's Employer at the local Ad Agency where the trio worked, along with Lilly Sinclair (Lucille Benson), the Apartment Manager during Season 1 only.

At the start of the series' 2nd season in September 1981, Kip & Henry revealed their True Identities to Sonny & Isabelle; after the initial Shock Wore off, Sonny forgave Kip for the Deception, and Isabelle (by this time taking over for Lilly as Apartment Manager) allowed Kip & Henry to continue living at the Apartment--this time Openly as Men--as long as nobody else was in on the Deception.

During the first season, "Bosom Buddies" aired Thursday nights at 8 P.M. ET on ABC after the '70s sitcom "Mork & Mindy," after which for the second season it moved to Friday nights at 8 P.M. ET after the '70s sitcom "Benson," with Disastrous Results, eventually causing the show to move back to Thursday nights at 8 P.M. after "Mork & Mindy"; by then, however, ABC had already cancelled "Bosom Buddies," with the Series Finale aired on March 25, 1982, after which NBC, in Summer 1984, picked up Summer Reruns of "Bosom Buddies" due to Tom Hanks' Rising Success after the Disney movie "Splash."

Reruns soon afterwards began airing on the USA Cable Network from 1984-1995, after which they began airing on Nickelodeon UK as part of its inaugural Paramount Comedy Channel programming lineup from November 1, 1995 - February 4, 2001, after which Paramount Comedy became a 24/7 British channel.

TV Land (Sister network to Nickelodeon) showed "Bosom Buddies" from 1997-1998 and later TBS during the early 2000s, after which Decades briefly aired it during Summer 2020.

On October 22, 2021, Peter Scolari, age 67, died in his New York City, New York home of Cancer after a Private 2-year battle with Leukemia.

Born on September 12, 1954 in New Rochelle, New York, Peter Thomas Scolari appeared in Dozens of Films & TV Shows in his Lifetime--besides "Bosom Buddies" and "Newhart," he also appeared in a Disney sitcom adaptation of "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" Adapted for Television by John Landis.

Among the Contents of the "Bosom Buddies: The Complete Series" Blu Ray shall include each episode Lovingly Restored & Remastered from the original ABC Network Prints--including Scenes featuring Songs Omitted from the DVDs Performed by the Cast e.g. "Happy Days Are Here Again," "Yakkity Yak" & "Chances Are" from various episodes, as well as the series' original theme song ("My Life," Written by Billy Joel and Performed for the show by Atlanta Studio Musician Gary Bennett) included at the start of each episode.

Unfortunately for yours truly, for the DVDs, the episodes of "Bosom Buddies" replace "My Life" with what I jokingly call "The Suck Song" (aka "Shake Me Loose," Written by Chris Thompson & Performed by Stephanie Mills).

The "Bosom Buddies" Pilot was shot on Film, after which the other 36 half-hour episodes were shot on the then-infant Medium of Videotape.

"Bosom Buddies" was A Miller-Milkis-Boyett Production for Paramount Television and is Distributed for Syndication by CBS Media Ventures.

Sincerely,
Steve Arino

Default Bosom Buddies: The Complete Series Blu-ray Request

Dear Bob Bakish,

I have a proposal for Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment: in honor of its impending 45th Anniversary next year, it's my humble suggestion that Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment issue and release, for the first time EVER on Blu Ray, "Bosom Buddies: The Complete Series," a loving showcase of all 37 half-hour episodes of the critically-acclaimed yet short-lived 1980-1982 sitcom "Bosom Buddies" 100% Complete, 100% Uncut, AND 100% Unedited, just the way that each episode originally aired on the ABC Television Network, each episode sourced from the original ABC Television Network Prints--including the show's original theme song, "My Life," Written by Billy Joel and Performed for the show by Atlanta Studio Musician Gary Bennett, as well as Select Songs Performed by the Cast of the Show on Select Episodes that were SORELY Omitted from the DVDs such as "Happy Days Are Here Again" from Season 1's "My Brother, My Sister, Myself," "Yakkity Yak" from Season 2's "One For You, One For Me" and "Rock and Roll Heaven" from Season 2's "Hildy's Dirt Nap," as well as the original Paramount Television Blue Mountain Logo as originally aired at the end of each episode and at the end of every Paramount show of the era.

Created by Chris Thompson, "Bosom Buddies" was a hit '80s sitcom originally airing on ABC from November 27, 1980 - March 25, 1982, spanning 2 seasons of 37 half-hour episodes; the show starred Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari as, respectively, Thomas Amos "Kip" Wilson and Henry Desmond, 2 young-adult men, New York City Transplants (via Ohio) who, at the start of the Pilot Episode, discovered that their Apartment Building in NYC they were living in was being Demolished; at the suggestion of their colleague Amy Cassidy (Wendie Jo Sperber), who they worked with at the Livingston, Gentry & Mishkin Advertising Agency where Henry was a copywriter and aspiring novelist and Kip was an illustrator and aspiring painter, Kip & Henry decided to move into Amy's apartment building, which turned out, much to their chagrin, to be a Residence for Women Only--the Susan B. Anthony Hotel.

What to do, they thought to themselves? After much consideration, Kip and Henry decided to live at the Susan B. Anthony Hotel in Drag, dressed as women, posing as their respective sisters Buffy and Hildegarde, although they both kept showing up at the Hotel as themselves occasionally; other Principal Characters included Sonny Lument (Donna Dixon), an aspiring Dancer who worked as a Nurse--and whom Kip instantly fell in love with at first sight; Isabelle Hammond (Telma Hopkins), an aspiring actress who lived at the Susan B. Anthony Hotel across the hall from Amy; Lilly Sinclair (Lucille Benson), who initially was the Hotel Manager in the first season after the Pilot; and Ruth Dunbar (Holland Taylor), Kip, Henry & Amy's Employer.

In September 1981, at the start of the 2nd season, Kip & Henry revealed their true identities to the girls at the Hotel; after the initial shock wore off, Isabelle, by this time taking over for Lilly as the Hotel Manager, decided to allow Kip & Henry to continue living at the Susan B. Anthony Hotel, this time Openly as Men, provided that nobody else was in on the Con.

During its first season, "Bosom Buddies" aired Thursday nights at 8 P.M. ET on ABC after "Mork & Mindy," after which it moved permanently to Friday nights at 8 P.M. ET opposite the '70s sitcom "Benson," with disastrous results; despite moving back midway through Season 2 to Thursday nights at 8 P.M. ET after "Mork & Mindy" (and later "Police Squad"), by this time ABC, due to low ratings, had already cancelled "Bosom Buddies," with the Series Finale, ironically titled "Not the Last Picture Show," telecast on March 25, 1982 at 8 P.M. ET after an episode of "Police Squad."

Shortly after Tom Hanks made a "Splash" at the Box Office--and still continues to be a Box Office Sensation 40 years later--reruns of "Bosom Buddies" aired on Saturday nights at 9 P.M. ET on NBC during the Summer of 1984.

Reruns would later be seen on the USA Cable Network from 1992-1993 as well as on Nickelodeon as part of its Paramount Comedy Channel lineup in the UK from November 1, 1995 - February 4, 2001 (until Paramount Comedy became its own separate 24/7 UK Channel, later Comedy Central UK), with TV Land airing reruns in the US from 1997-1998 and later TBS Superstation in the early 2000s; most recently, reruns of "Bosom Buddies" were seen occasionally on Catchy Comedy (formerly Decades).

"Bosom Buddies" was produced by Miller-Boyett Productions (then Miller Milkis-Boyett Productions) in association with Paramount Domestic Television.

"Bosom Buddies" is Distributed by CBS Media Ventures.

Tentatively, in honor of its 45th Anniversary, Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment shall issue and release "Bosom Buddies: The Complete Series" on Blu Ray on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at a cost of ONLY $39.99 wherever Physical Media is sold. Thanks very much in advance for reading, Bob, and may God Bless You!!!

Sincerely,
Steve Arino
