I think Ward Cleaver was the best.

Mr. Keaton on Family Ties...Mike Brady wasn't bad. All tv dads are good! (almost all of them).

Steve Douglas was a good single parent father to his three sons.
Cliff Huxtable, the first three seasons of the Cosby Show, was good. The fourth season and beyond there was this tendency to talk to his children as though they was stupid and not wanted. There was too much of an obsession with Cliff wanting the children to leave home. Classic Cliff Huxtable moment was the first episode with Theo and the monopoly money showing Theo how hard life is when being on your own. Classic stuff. |

My all time favorites would be a tie between Andy Taylor and Tom Corbett (The Courtship of Eddie's Father). Two single dads who did a great job.

For me it's a toss-up among the following:
Jack Arnold on The Wonder Years Mike Brady on The Brady Bunch (and the spinoffs!!!) Ward Cleaver on Leave It To Beaver Howard Cunningham on Happy Days Andy Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show Tim Taylor on Home Improvement John Walton on The Waltons Carl Winslow on Family Matters |
