Default Reminder that the Growing Up Brady book is full of mistakes

Over 50 in the Barry Williams/Chris Kreski '92 original. Over 30 in the revised '99 edition.

Are they going to release a new version with all of the mistakes corrected? Thanks for letting us know!

No idea Jack, honest! But a logical guess would be three more years.

Growing up Brady was an excellent book, but Barry does make a lot of mistakes in it. Here are just a few which I can remember of the top of my head.

1. In the pilot episode "The Honeymoon", Barry says that Mike's middle name is Albert, but it is really Paul.

2. There were rumors out there that Barry at a gambling and drinking problem, but Barry doesn't discuss this it his book.

3. In the chapter "Dating Your Mom", Barry said that he used his brother Craig's car to pick up Florence Henderson to take her on their date at the Coconut Grove. But the orginal reports were that Craig drove Barry to Florence's apartment, and Florence drove the rest of the way.

4. In the chapter "Frantic on the Atlantic", when Barry wanted to have sex with Maureen, they were on the Queen Elizabeth 2, and they were supposed to go to London. But in the "Growing Up Brady" TV movie, they only went to New York. Also in the movie Florence was on the ship, but in the book there was no mention of Florence. I guess she was the one who took the picture that's in the book.

5. In the episode "Quaterback Sneak", Barry says that Jerry Rogers is from Clinton High School, but Jerry is actually from Fairview.

6. When Barry descibes the episode "A Fistfull of Reasons", Barry said that after Peter puched out Buddy Hinton and knocked out his tooth, Peter then proceded to say "Baby talk Baby Talk, It's a Wonder That You Can Walk". But it was Cindy who said that while her and the other kids who teased Buddy. Instead Peter was the voice or reason and yells at the other kids telling them to go home. When Cindy asks why should they tease Buddy, Peter tells Cindy for the same reason you didn't like him teasing her

7. Well this really isint'a mistake but in the book Greg tells about the time he got stoned in the episode the chapter "One toke over the Line". But they never do this in the Growing up Brady movie. Instead the show a scene where Barry, Chris and Mike were fooling around the Star Trek set, which isin't mentioned in the book

8. One major change from the original version of Growing up Brady and the updated version is the death of Robert Reed. In the updated version Barry admitts that Robert was a homosexual, which isn't discussed in the first version.

Also, the tragic Eric/Chris Shea mistake. When describing ep 67, Barry claims Eric Shea provided the voice of Linus in Peanuts cartoons. Wrong!!!!! Chris Shea did! NO BOOK CAN HAVE SO MANY ERRORS AND STILL BE EXCELLENT! Adam will you get real!?!

Yes it can be. The other parts of the book can make up for the mistakes in it. I'm just wondering, but are you ever going to stop obsessing over GUB and other book mistakes? I think you've clearly proven the point that there are some mistakes in Barry Williams' book.

You are really over reacting about this. A few posts is enough to carry your point across of the fact that GUB has mistakes, more then the usual book has. But I mean what you're doing with GUB seems to be bordering on obsession with errors. It seems just about all your posts are about this book and it's errors. And to your knowing better comment, .

When the first version of the book, Growing Up Brady, was published, Robert Reed was still alive, and he'd even written the book's forward, so that's why there couldn't have been any mention of his death then.
BTW, the tv series The Bradys made a mistake w/ Mike's middle name, since Pete refers to him over and over again as Michael Thomas Brady. I wish Robert Reed had put his foot down over that mistake, since he apparently bugged Sherwood Schwartz about whether or not strawberries had any odor when they were cooking.

Williams gave credit where none was due to Eric Shea. That was very wrong of Williams!

Exactly. It was a fun book. Considering the world we live in, this is nothing. There are so many other issues in life that are worth worrying about, and this isn't one of them. And truly, since most of the stuff he wrote about was from memory, I can understand why there would be mistakes. Heck, I can't even remember what I had for lunch yesterday, let alone what I did 20 years ago or so!!

I love these little things!!

Talking Better Brady Books Out There

I do agree that the episode guide should have been checked more carefully. Barry could have at least watched the episodes more carefully for clarification of any details he was not sure about. Something is wrong when the star of his own show doesn't take the time to check out basic information that any devoted "Brady" fan knows is wrong. Furthermore, to release subsequent additions of the text with many of the same errors is not a good way to publish the material that you have based your identity on growing up. Look at how accurate Elizabeth Moran's text is compared to Barry's. It's not the end of the world, but devoted fans of the series should be aware that there are more accurate books about The Brady Bunch avaliable to them. Barry's book, despite revisions, still has way too many errors.

Jack...Ok, you got me there (and someone else who posted earlier). I suppose he should have checked his facts a little closer.

But I still enjoyed the book (errors and all)....
