Default Were people expecting Sheena Easton to become a big star in the 80's?

From the time Morning Train "Nine To Five" debuted in 1981 as Sheena Easton's first hit I never knew people expected that Sheena Easton would be one of the big popular stars of the 80's. Was it because she had competition with Olivia-Newton-John and they tried to market her like Olivia Newton-John did when Olivia made her American debut in the 70's? I think by the time Sheena Easton's sophomore album You Could've Been With Me came out in 1982 Sheena had made herself a household name. But the one thing I can never understand and still can't figure out is how Sheena Easton got together with Kenny Rogers to record a duet remake of Bob Seger's We've Got Tonight and how it became a monster hit? My mom first heard Kenny Rogers duet with Sheena Easton on We've Got Tonight at a Kenny Rogers concert where Sheena Easton was also Kenny Rogers's opening act and she thought the song was unappealing. But I think as the 80's progressed Sheena Easton's albums and songs were slowly starting to wane and once 1988 hit Sheena tried to do R&B music and they tried to make her like Paula Abdul with the album The Lover In Me and you can see why Sheena's image changed with that album. With What Comes Naturally hitting stores in 1991 Sheena Easton tried to attempt New Jill Swing and that album had little promotion. But her No Strings album from 1993 finds Sheena tackling a Norah Jones/Nancy Wilson image and the easy listening sound is one that Sheena Easton should've stuck with. But it's shocking that you don't see Sheena Easton make a comeback album someday rather than becoming a cartoon voice actress

I think people were expecting Sheena Easton to have the same appeal as other female singers and so when Sheena Easton debuted in 1981 people thought she would be a one-hit wonder. But one thing I can't figure out was why Sheena Easton got to duet with Kenny Rogers and be one of his opening acts? Because the way I view it Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton became crushes and he told her to be his opening act because he could make her more famous. But I think Sheena Easton should make a comeback because she still has talent to show but she should make a comeback album in the future

The very first time I heard Sheena Easton was when my uncle and aunt were driving my family and cousins to an amusement park and my uncle had Sheena Easton playing in the car stereo and I admired the singing and so I asked my uncle "who is that girl" and he replied "Sheena Easton" and he showed me the cassette case which was the You Could've Been With Me album and so after my aunt and uncle went home I started looking for that same album on CD and I finally found it at a FYE store and was amazed at Sheena's sound. But I think when she was starting out I think people were gonna compare Sheena Easton to Juice Newton because even though Juice Newton was a country singer Juice had some pop songs too and Sheena Easton was completely a pop singer Sheena Easton probably had competition with Juice Newton too. But how Sheena Easton got to perform For Your Eyes Only for the James Bond movie of the same name is pure genius because when you hear Sheena sing that song she actually does a Barbra Streisand like vocal in the chorus of the song and i'm surprised no one on American Idol has done a cover of For Your Eyes Only because that song is really good. But another one of her songs where Sheena Easton attempted to do country is Almost Over You and when you listen to Almost Over You Sheena Easton should've been a country singer. For comparison I listened to country singer Lila McCann's version of Almost Over You and Lila sounds identical to Sheena when Lila covered this song. But I do wish Sheena Easton would return and make a comeback album because she is unique in a lot of ways
