Default Producer explains in summer of 1981 why a new roommate was needed for season 6

I dont recall hearing the reason for adding a new roommate for season 6 on THS and stumbled across this article. He said a new face brings in new storylines for a new season and that's why a new roommate was added to the show. For years I always wondered why another roommate was needed if Cindy had been there so long. lol

That is the P.R. story. Harrison and the other cast stated the producers were concerned about the decline in ratings and wanted to sex up the show more and thought Harrison was too young for those scripts. They brought in an older woman and the ratings went up with a return to more sexualized scripts.
I thought Harrison did a great job considering the huge shoes she was trying to fill. The clumsy roommate would have worn thin though after season 5 or 6.
I think this article was trying to blunt the confusion of why Threes Company was getting yet another blonde roommate.

It was just something they didnt mention on THS since the main reason for it was the suzanne somers contract dispute. So I never knew the reasoning behind adding Priscilla Barnes to the show.

The ‘bringing in an older person for more sex stories’ anecdote is also told by Jenilee Harrison in Chris Mann’s book.

Do you know what page it mentions why cindy was never mentioned again after the wig Out episode

It does mention in that article they going to send her off to college but her last screen appearance was so odd

I see mentions of no more Cindy on pages 209 and 226. I don’t see anything about real life why she left. Maybe it’s in there somewhere, but I don’t see it.

Its interesting to read what Joyce thought about the "Janet Wigs Out" script. It was ridiculous for a character to change so much in a show. Even worse was Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow.
The wheels were coming off but as long as ratings were good no one cared (except the actors).
Janet and Teri were very grounded characters. To turn them into superficial, sex crazed women for one show was beyond stupid.

In regards to Wig Out, Cindy was too goofy to realize that Janet was on a date and was going to actually sit with them

That was the least of it. The way Janet was acting because she wore a blonde wig was insane. But it was out done but Terri's trance over Jack because of a plastic mustache. Jack tries to be mean and abusive towards her at the Beagle to get her to fall out of love with him and its still was not working.

I can kind of see why Janet was acting that way. Before she wore the blonde wig she wasnt getting the attention she wanted from men and when she did everything changed. Like in my case, if I start wearing a beard and notice women falling all over me Im going to stick to what's working

i was never a fan of the Cindy character but i always thought it was too bad that Cindy just vanishes and is never mentioned again after she walks out of the Beagle. but the producers of the show never cared about things like that. another problem was that Harrison was just not that good a actress. you could see that from watching the show.

I always thought it was a bit insulting to her to still have her in the opening credits but now she was in the background with Larry and Furley while Jack is upfront with Janet and now Terri. she was old news and not as important anymore. lol

and i always thought it looked weird that Jack , Larry and the girls were even hanging out with their old Landlord Mr.Furley at the zoo etc. their group of friends were lacking. Mr.Furley was probably one of the most pathetic characters on a tv show. He had no real friends, he dressed really badly, had a bad toupee, no luck with women, he was wimpy, and on top of it he was a homophobe.
