I was talking to my friend in my Physics class about Happy Days and he told me that he could find a connection between Fonzie and Mike Seaver (on Growing Pains). I wanna put down what he said and I also want to know if you guys know any other connections between the two.
1. Both Fonzie and Mike are incredibly cocky, confident guys. 2. They both (at one point) lived above their "families' " garage(Fonzie above the Cunninghams' Garage and Mike above his parents' garage). 3. Potsie = Boner (Mike's idiotic friend). 4. Both could get girls very easily. 5. Fonzie wanted to settle down with Ashley and Mike with Julie (you can say Kate, but I'm saying Julie). 6. Neither of the above worked out for the two playboys. 7. They both slacked off in school (did they?) 8. They both returned to school to become teachers. 9. Fonzie became a role model for Richie and Mike became one for Luke. 10. Richie and Ralph join the army and so does Boner. 11. Mike adores his sister Chrissy and Fonzie adores Richie's sister, Joanie. 12. Jason Seaver and Howard Cunningham are both the hotheads of their family and their wives (Maggie Seaver and Marion Cunningham respectively) always cool them down. 13. Howard initially cannot stand Fonzie and Jason...well...he never could stand Mike. 14. Roger is to Fonzie as Carole is to Mike. 15. Ben annoys Mike and Ralph annoys Fonzie...and...everyone really. 16. They both take place in Middle Class homes (as Fonzie stresses). 17. Mother Kelp = Maggie's Father Any other similarities? |

Also Fonzie is a it in the play "The Rainmaker", in the episode "Fonzie A Thespian", and Mike is a hit in a school play in the episode "A Star is Born". Also in the final episode of Happy Days called "Passages 2" Fonize adopts a young boy named Danny played by Jeremy Licht. In the Growing Pains reunion movie Mike and Kate have adopted some kids.

In Growing Pains, there was an entire episode dedicated to Maggie working and in Happy Days, there was one about Marion working. Oh yes, and the Sheriff was a lot like Mike's principal. They were both picking on Fonzie and Mike. Outside of the show: Scott Baio and Erin Moran dated on and off during Happy Days and Kirk Cameron also dated the girl who played Kate. However, Scott and Erin broke up (and Scott moved on to Pamela Anderson...ick!) while Kirk and Kate got married. Erin Moran is also a Born Again Christian and so is Kirk....never thought the guy who played Mike Seaver would take religion seriously....
Oh and Richie almost died and Sandy did die. |

I totally forgot the most obvious one. Maggie was a journalist on Growing Pains and who was originally a journalist on Happy Days? Our good friend, Richie the C. Fonzie and Mike were clearly the most popular characters on their shows. Both Happy Days and Growing Pains had spin offs. Happy Days had four (Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy, Joanie Loves Chachi, and Blankshy's Beauties) and Growing Pains had one (Just the Ten of Us). Hmmm, I have AP American History Homework so the only other I can think of for now is that Garry Marshall grew up in the Bronx which is close to Long Island which is where Growing Pains is set. Okay, I live near the City, and I know it is no picnic trying to get from the Bronx to Long Island, but if you live in Outer Mongolia like Chuck, it's no big distance.

I am responding to the statement that Fonzie was a role model to Richie.....
I always thought Richie was a role model to Fonzie. Richie was always trying to keep Fonzie on the straight path. He convinced him to retire from his gang. He was always there acting as his conscious, trying to get him to make responsible choices. |
