Valerie Bertinelli looks back at One Day At A Time
I'll pick and choose some stuff from the interview, then link the whole thing.... “I remember being 15, standing at the apartment door, and really thinking, at 15 years old, ‘This is gonna change my life,’” Bertinelli says. “Wow, I can still smell the smells. I can still see the audience. It's like there's certain moments — I mean, 15 is a long time ago from 50 years — so it's hard to remember a lot of stuff that's not that recent, but there's certain memories from One Day at a Time that I still take with me. And that's one of them.” “I knew that was going to be special. I don't know how I knew that then, but I could feel it,” she says. “I wish I’d feel those feelings more." “God, I'd love to see Mac on the show [a reunion on The Drew Barrymore Show],” she confesses, referring to Phillips. “I talk to her, I text her, but because I'm so old, it's kind of hard to do a reunion with people because Bonnie and Pat [Harrington Jr.] are gone, you know?” https://ew.com/valerie-bertinelli-on...rsary-11682951 |

Recalling Valerie Bertinelli's Former Child Star Memories While Working On TV's 'One Day At A Time'
Beloved actress Valerie Bertinelli, now 65, was just a teenager when she got her start in the 1970s on the original CBS-TV groundbreaking sitcom, One Day At A Time. When cast in the role of Barbara Cooper, the youngest daughter of the late Bonnie Franklin's groundbreaking divorced single mom Ann Romano, Bertinelli was a junior, attending California's Granada Hills High School. A Closer Look at Bertinelli's Teenage Years In June 1976, entertainment historian/author Peggy Herz interviewed Bertinelli for the book, TV Talk 2: Exploring TV Territory. The then-budding actress shared with Herz some of her most personal observations of her then young life. Those included her favorite subjects at school, and her enjoyment of certain sports and rock stars. "I like Math and English very much," Bertinelli said. "And I love to play football. I play touch, tackle, flag - everything. I play it in PE, and sometimes people from the [TV] studio and I go out on Saturdays and play." "My brothers always played," Bertinelli continued, "so I joined them. They taught me everything I know. I'm pretty good!" Bertinelli mentioned her enjoyment in playing backgammon. "I have a portable set in the car," she said. "My best friend taught me. She beats me, but I play it constantly." "I like to swim," added Bertinelli, who also had played tennis. Bertinelli was a fan of rock star Elton John, who was then just fully integrating himself into the pop-culture mainstream. "I'm in love with Elton John!" she said. "I like everything about him! I have albums, T-shirts...the last time I counted I had about 40 posters, 50 T-shirts...I've seen him perform a number of times but I've never met him." As an adult, Bertinelli would later marry rock legend Eddie Van Halen (who died in 2020). In the mid-1970s, however, the actress wasn't allowed to date until she was 16. "I have a boyfriend," she said. "We haven't been on that many dates, but he comes over every night. He feels proud when fans recognize me." https://www.newsbreak.com/herbie-j-p...-day-at-a-time Didn’t make the cover though ![]()

The New York Times review from December 1975. Basically, mixed.
>>>The cast, especially Miss Franklin, is appealing although the Lear penchant for loud shouting, for aggressive comedy, is beginning to bulge uncomfortably in the wrong places.<<< https://www.nytimes.com/1975/12/16/a...dy-begins.html |
