In an earlier post re: Freddie's last episode, I said I wished we could ask Della Reese what he was really like when she worked with him. How about this...We write her show "Touched by an Angel" and ask if they could write an episode based upon a young, struggling actor, whose father had died and who was left wondering about him and why he wasn't there to help him as he struggled to reach the top!
The Angel character would be based on Freddie Sr. and ...YOU GOT IT...Freddie Jr. would play the young actor. I don't know who would play Freddie...maybe Tony Orlando? Della would be able to either write the episode herself or assist the writers with her knowledge of Freddie. What do you think? |

I recently read the Della Reese autobiography which had a short blurb about Freddie. Basically she said that Freddie was really a sweet guy and that he spent many hours at Della's house playing backgammon. She would always beat him and he would always want to play another game so that he could win.
Paraphrasing here but basically she said that he had too much success too soon. That all of his dreams were coming true before he even had a chance to dream them. That he went from the barrio to the White House in a very short time. Freddie liked to play games and liked to scare his friends. She said that she didn't think the drugs were the reason that he died but that he had taken one of his games too far. She also wrote that Jack, Freddie, and Scatman were all gentlemen and she feels that the three of them are watching over her. She apparently was snowed in on a visit to Cleveland when she heard the news of Freddie's death. She had to drive to Toledo and eventually made it back in time for the funeral. |
