From the 80's to the 90's the halftime shows of each Super Bowl used to be big giant affairs and were actually real shows where artists such as Billy Joel Michael Jackson Gladys Knight BB King Ray Charles Queen Latifah Garth Brooks and Tina Turner would get together and perform and they were really good. But once the famous Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction incident happened during the Justin Timberlake/Janet Jackson halftime show happened it ruined the Super Bowl halftime show for good. And beginning with the U2 halftime show in 2003 people were beginning to see the Super Bowl Halftime Shows in a whole new light and based on the success of U2's halftime show it started a new trend of solo halftime shows that has continued today. And the same thing was repeated with Prince when he got a halftime show as well. Because when you get the general picture solo events with singers are much more cheaper to produce because it's simply to promote the artist's new album and that's why you see artists and bands like The Who The Rolling Stones Madonna Bruno Mars the late Tom Petty Beyonce and many other artists perform at their own Super Bowl halftime shows is just so they can perform singles from their new albums. And the actual reason why rap artists have halftime shows is because they are popular and they hope people buy their albums. But future halftime shows should be themed like they could have one of all country artists or a tribute show of an artist like Tina Turner or Whitney Houston and it would be a hit
