Blake Shelton to Host Grand Ole Opry 100th Anniv. Special for NBC on March 19th
Blake Shelton to Host Grand Ole Opry 100th Anniversary Special on NBC
by Selome Hailu Jan 27, 2025 On March 19, NBC will air “Opry 100: A Live Celebration” in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Grand Ole Opry. Blake Shelton will host the special live from the iconic country music venue. The special will be telecast from two locations — the Grand Ole Opry House that has been home to the weekly broadcasts since 1974, and Nashville’s venerable “Mother Church,” the Ryman Auditorium, which hosted the show for decades prior to that and still hosts the Opry for a handful of dates each winter. “Becoming a member of the Opry is a highlight of my life and career, and 15 years later I still get that same feeling of reverence and excitement every time I walk out on that stage,” Shelton said. “The Grand Ole Opry has been connecting the country music family for 100 years, and I’m so proud to be part of this historic celebration.” The special will feature performances from Opry members: Amy Grant Ashley McBryde Brad Paisley Carly Pearce Carrie Underwood Clint Black Dierks Bentley Eric Church Garth Brooks Jelly Roll Kelsea Ballerini Lainey Wilson Luke Combs Marty Stuart Randy Travis Reba McEntire Trace Adkins Trisha Yearwood The War and Treaty More are expected to be announced. https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/bla...bc-1236287475/ |

Opry 100 Reveals Songs and Tributes: Find Out Who the Stars will be Saluting
by Chris Willman March 18, 2025 A lineup of performances for Wednesday night’s Opry 100: A Live Celebration special on NBC has been revealed, with many of today’s top country superstars slated to pay tribute to the legends of previous generations, and some doing their own enduring hits as well. The three-hour broadcast will take place live from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, with additional pre-recorded segments filmed at the Opry’s previous home, the Ryman Auditorium. The show airs Wednesday from 8-11 ET/PT on NBC, simulcast on Peacock. - Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood will honor the late George Jones and Tammy Wynette - Jelly Roll and Ashley McBryde will honor Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash - Reba McEntire will do double-duty, as tributes go, performing in dual appreciation of Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn, who were close friends before Cline’s career was cut tragically short. - Kelsea Ballerini will sing Barbara Mandrell’s biggest hit, “I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool,” introduced by Mandrell herself, who is retired from performing. - Dolly Parton will get her own tribute segment, naturally, in the hands of a young star with her own independent streak, Carly Pearce. - Keith Urban is slated to perform Crystal Gayle’s classic “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue,” with Gayle looking on from the audience. - Charley Pride will get a musical testimonial from Aloe Blacc and the McCrary Sisters, performing the late singer’s “Kiss An Angel Good Mornin.” - Travis Tritt will sing his own “T.R.O.U.B.L.E.” — although his duet partner for the night’s performance, crossover star Post Malone, will certainly be paying close-up homage to one of the country hitmakers he grew up on. - Alan Jackson, who is currently out on a farewell tour, will perform his own seminal smash “Chattahoochee.” - Host Blake Shelton will be joined by Trace Adkins and Clint Black for what is being described as “a nostalgic ‘90s party jam.” https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/opr...es-1236340414/ |
