Default Two characters they underutilized on the show

One character was the neighbor "Weeping Wanda" character played by Helen Martin, and another was Bookman's wife Violet played by Marylin Coleman. Wanda was only in 7 episodes and Violet in only two episodes. They were both very funny and producers should had them in more episodes, especially Violet since Bookman was always hanging around the family.

Wanda was hysterical in the Cleatus episode when the FBI comes to the building.

she was and just disappeared after season 3 and reappeared in season 5. Remember Bookmans was only seen because florida was no longer on the show. If florida was still on then there would have been no need to see her

The actress that played Wanda was on so many TV shows before becoming a regular again on 227. She was the babysitter on the first or second episode of What's Happening.

She was also really good in the Rent Party episode on Good Times.

and she played in a short-lived CBS sitcom called "baby Im back that aired from Jan of 78 to June of 78. She played kim fields grandmother on that show which also had demond wilson from sanford and son. The show was cancelled even though it had higher ratings than Good Times and the Jeffersons

Sad, but that is true as Bookman's wife was only seen in season 5. They killed that character when Florida came back in season 6. Even in Thelma's wedding in season 6, Bookman came alone to the church with no wife to tag along.

When James was cut out of the show Bookman's lines increased in the show. When Florida left they increased again. He almost became a main character. It was a little too much IMHO. Just like in What's Happening the fat jokes got really old and stale.

And JJ's friends never returned once Florida came back

There was a HUGE missed opportunity to make Willona and Bookman a Couple. Would have been VERY interesting.
