What is the big fad with tortilla soup?

I have never ever figured out why tortilla soup has become the in food now? Because it seems that every store is selling tortilla soup and it has become the number one soup between chicken noodle soup and vegetable soup now. I never even heard of tortilla soup until my mom bought a can of Campbell's Tortilla Soup and my mom has liked it since? What is actually in tortilla soup and why has it become the number one soup now?

I'm not sure what is in Campbell's tortilla soup, but here is a recipe:


Campbell's Slow Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Ingredients
1 1/4 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
(or 1- 50oz Boneless chicken with broth, drain broth)
1 cup Pace® Picante Sauce
2 cans (10.5 ounces) Campbell’s® Condensed Cream of Chicken Soup or 98% Fat Free Cream of Chicken Soup
8 ounces frozen whole kernel corn (about 2 cups)
1 can (about 15 ounces) black beans, rinsed and drained
1 1/3 cups water
1 teaspoon ground cumin
4 corn tortilla (6-inch), cut into strips
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese (about 4 ounces)
1/3 cup chopped cilantro

A fad, I didn't know that....I'd enjoy a nice hot bowl right now....

Maybe they can make Dropw to suck hwhen people have colds and flu like another soup mentioned around here....

That actually sound very yummy. When adding tortilla at the end it make it very hearty and filling soup. But I would leave out shredded cheese though. It would make the soup too "heavy" and thick.
