Does anyone take Spanish? (Dumb question...) Anyways, have you covered the "er" verbs yet?
ok, lemme quickly run over this... in Free Spirit, Natalie is taking Spanish and she's getting a B...so she has to study, so, Mrs. Garrett tells her to go study, then says, "Comprendo?" If you've done grammar for er verbs...(the infinitive for comprendo is compreder which, means, "To understand") The "Yo" or 'I' form of "er" verbs...basically, what you change the ending to, is O...the I form is always O...however, she wasn't saying that she understood, she was asking Natalie if SHE understood...so, she woudl use the Tu form...which is..."Comprendes" I believe...if I'm wrong and it's Comprende, go ahead and correct me...I always got the Tu form and the el/ella form mixed up...lol...this probably makes no sense to anyone, but, hey, I tried... I'm gonna watch the episode and see if I can find anything else, but, so far, that's all... |

I'm not an expert on Espanol, but I'm guessing when Mrs. G said
"Comprendo?", I don't think she was even trying to be grammatically correct. You know how people will try to make a point with messed up foreign languages. I have a feeling you're right about the proper grammar, but I think this was one of Mrs. G's attempts at being "hip" with the language. |

It should be comprende.
Comprendes (the tu form) is too formal. Haven't seen the episode in years, but I assume the writers made her use the wrong form showing that Mrs. Garrett did not know and did not care, she was making a point that Natalie just better study. |
