For those that remember Mad Magazine, in 2019 was there last new material issue, and began printing existing material with a new fold in, and new cover, Now it seems that they are starting to include new material again!
They had a 70th anniversary issue (Dec'22) With new material, now the newest issues Oct'24 (Had 20 new pages of new material), and Dec'24 (Comes out next week)- 15 pages of new material. MAD is available by subscription and also at Comic Book stores. Hopefully it's a new trend to continue each month. https://www.dc.com/mad |

Currently only 6 issues are being published per year, but that doesn't include specials.

I remember when Mad Magazine was all the rage and every time I'd go to the drug store Dad would always read the newest issue of Mad Magazine and he would find it funny. But my cousin collected Mad Magazines and would buy every issue made along with Cracked Magazine. I didn't know Mad Magazine still existed because I thought it went bankrupt. But they introduced some funny features such as their famous Spy Vs Spy comic and their parodies of commercials are so cool and funny and of course their famous spokesman Alfred E. Neuman with his iconic phrase "What me worry" still make Mad Magazine a fan favorite. I do remember they even had a kids version called Mad Kids that was aimed at kids with the same humor but kid friendly. But how did Mad Magazine get back in business? Did a company buy them?

The answer is a little complicated, but basically Mad has never been canceled.
Mad has been in continuous publication since the first issue in 1952. The first series ended with the April 2018 issue, #550 -- and then the current series started right after with a new #1, June 2018. That new #1 did go to newsstands, but you will not have much luck anymore finding the current regular issues in "everyday" stores like pharmacies or grocery (see below). Never went out of business. The publisher always has been EC Publications, but in recent decades (since about 2000 or earlier) DC Comics has been a "parent" publisher of sorts. It's complicated, but DC Comics has a close association with Mad (and there have been variant issue Mad covers of their superhero comics). Newsstand sales of magazines, paperbacks, and comics have taken severe downturns for several reasons: fewer stores carrying them, higher cover prices, and consumers switching to digital media. You may find Mad special issues ("one-shots") in supermarkets and stores like Walmart, but not the regular ongoing Mad magazine anymore. Regular issues are still carried by some comic shops, or as the O.P. stated by mail subscription. [(Mad magazines (and most all comics) are now "Direct" -- meaning the comic shops carry them with the unsold copies as "non-returnable" (shop keeps them) -- whereas the old "Newsstand" distribution meant the issues went to stores on consignment -- and the store received credit for returned unsold copies (there had to be proof sent back like the tops of the covers, then stating the rest of the comic/magazine/paperback was destroyed, although in more recent years it was an "affidavit" system claiming the entire unsold item was destroyed (pulped).)] |

Just providing an update:
since I posted each issue has had a mix or new and old I received the latest issue in the mail #42 the other day and it looks like each issue is now having new material as well as classic material. This issue even had a MAD new movie satire in it. The next issue #43 will also have new material as well. The cover price is $5.99 so for $19.99 yearly subscription for 6 issues it's a good blast from the past and now with new material added. |

Here are the most recent issues.
The publishing schedule is bi-monthly, which means every other month. (The one at the bottom is the Aug. 2025 issue.) |

Does anyone remember the special edition that came out when "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" was made?
