Exclusive: Sean Kanan Out at "General Hospital", In at "The Bold and the Beautiful"

Another Q bites the dust! Suds vet Sean Kanan is wrapping up his role as A.J. Quartermaine on ABC's "General Hospital" — the character is currently in critical condition after being shot in the chest — and will head back to CBS's "The Bold and the Beautiful" to once again play badass Deacon Sharpe.

The actor will continue working at GH through March 28, and be seen on the show for few weeks after that. He reports to B&B mid-April, with his return episode scheduled to air June 13.

Kanan tells TV Guide Magazine his exit from GH was by mutual decision.

"I was utterly thrilled to be brought back to GH for the 50th anniversary and really enjoyed working with [executive producer] Frank Valentini, but I was not over the moon about the writing," Kanan says.

"Doing stories about panic attacks and relish was not what I thought I'd signed up for. I feel I brought everything I could to the character yet it was obvious they weren't going to give me a great love story, which I found very disappointing."

Romantic relationships, he says, are "the bread and butter of daytime, and you can only survive on a show for so long without one. I could see the writing on the wall. I spoke with Frank and we mutually agreed that if I wasn't happy, and they could find a good way to write me out, that it was best to wrap it up."

Kanan says he contacted B&B executive producer-head writer Bradley Bell to let him know of his upcoming availability and was quickly offered a contract to return as Deacon, the slimy, opportunistic daddy of Hope Logan (Kim Matula).

The soap-hopping Deacon is also hugely popular with fans of B&B's sister soap, "The Young and the Restless", where he married and boozed it up big time with Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott).

"Deacon is my favorite of all the characters I've played," Kanan notes. "I started my career in daytime on GH but returning to B&B feels like I'm going home."

He has a point about the relish story and his relationship with Liz fizzled. I thought he was getting a good story being shot and whatnot but I guess not.
