Default Worst Editing Ever

Nick at Nite is famous for chopping its shows but I remember when they aired the one where Jack takes the tranquilizers and goes to Janet's party, they took out most of the scene where he flips out. This had to be one of the funniest moments in television history, not to mention TC, and they killed it. That season (6) was the one that won John Ritter an emmy and I think alot of it was that episode. Nick executives should be shot at sunrise for this botch job.

Thank you!! I can't even watch that episode anymore. The parts they cut out are the funniest parts of the episode. It was John Ritter at some of his best.

If I could have one TC show uncut it would be that one. I laughed until I cried. I waited and waited for Nick to show when they first got TC and sat until they started season six and could not believe what they did to it. The shame of it is, all those people who never saw that one before do not know what they missed. When he falls behind the chair and comes up with the plant on his head I fell off my chair! The thing is that the orginal syndicated version that aired for years includes that part. It is just NAN version that cut it....

Same here! When he has the broken plant pot on his head and he's using the coctail shaker as a maracca (sp?), that is killer. I was burned on this episode when it came to N@N. I told a friend all about it and how funny it was with Jack's whole dance. Of course since the funniest stuff was cut out they thought I was just remembering it wrong and they didn't find the episode very funny.
Did they leave in the part where he's coming down the staircase? I can't remember anymore. Why they cut out the funniest parts and left in other parts I can't figure out. It's really one of the best episodes.

Yes, they cut the stairs out too. They cut shows to have more times for commcericals but on this episode they should have left it alone. I did the same thing with one of my young cousins who was just starting to like TC, that is, got them all jazzed but they thought I overrated the episode which burned me for making me look bad and ruining the show. Ask ANY TC fan that has seen the whole thing and it is at or near the top of thier list of favorites.

You are not alone. Everytime N@N or TNN airs it I post "I hate when they cut Jack's dancing!!"

It was Ritter's best performance ever, and right as he slides on the stool (I think it's at that point) they cut to the patio. Who knows why they'd cut his best scene of the series in favor of more dialogue somewhere. You miss him kissing the lamp on, dancing with it, getting on the bar, falling off, the shaker, the plant, up the stairs, the cane, the leg kicks as he walks down, then when flies over the chair.

So glad I taped it years ago off possibly TBS or my local station and got the whole thing.

The more I think of this, the more annoyed I get. Again, I haven't been able to watch the cut version in a while....Do they leave in the stupid part where Larry is trying to help Jack before the party, they're in the apartment and Jack is sitting on a chair with Larry pretending to run through the takeoff procedure. If it is, why wouldn't they cut that part instead?

My version begins with Janet walking in and getting hung up in her sweater. In watching the TNN one recently there was some sort of exchange between Jack and Teri before Janet gets home. I guess this was left in in favor of Ritter's great performance later.

That show is so funny I laugh just reading what you posted from the episode. I wish I had it on tape from the TBS days but I thought nobody would ever cut that part out. How naive I was, and yes, on NAN they leave the part in where Jack is getting the lessons from Larry. A crying shame is what it is....

I think some bad editing really occured in season four. Is it me, or that whole second half of the season had tags cut? I know tags are easy to cut, but if they cut them, don't make it noticable. I have seen various tags edits in season five and six, where just a tiny clip of the tag is caught in the fadeouts (Teacher's Pet, Paradise Lost, Up in the Air). This UP IN THE AIR discussion is a hot one, because many people are really mad that the particular scene of Jack dancing is cut. I would be mad too. I would cut out Larry's teaching Jack to fly routine. I'd leave Terri's scene in at the beginning, because that was the only scene she was in. I'd probably leave the tag out, and maybe cut some of Janet's and David's scenes out. I'd more or less leave everything Jack does in though. I loved when he told a group of guys that he was a Jesuit priest or a brain surgeon, and even a congressmen! Heck, even when he asks that captain "Is this your first time on the Love Boat?" was funny. This was John Ritter's best work on this show. I don't think he ever topped it, but OUT ON A LIMB came real close.

When I saw the episode "The Bake-Off" on Nick-at-Nite, they miraculously left in the tag scene in which Jack does get hit by two pies. But that was over a year ago, so Nick-at-Nite may have become even more stingy by now by cutting even more scenes.

Default jack's dancing "up in the air"

Thank goodness I have all the episodes taped when they were on another station.. I can't trust N@N to show all the originals, I pull out "up in the air" once in a while to get a good laugh!! Lisa

Oh, so I didn't miss that much... N@N shows it up until he dances with the lamp and then they show Janet with Greg Brady. But I saw most of the dancing on E! True Hollywood Story - Threes Company. They show Jack "getting on the bar, falling off, the shaker, the plant, up the stairs, the cane, the leg kicks as he walks down, then when flies over the chair", but not all at once. E! shows Jack first getting on the bar and falling off. Then later they show the shaker scene when he has the plant on his head. Then later still, they show Jack going down the stairs. And in the revised version of E! True Hollywood Story - Threes Company, when they talk about how John passed away, they have the scene where he falls off the chair and almost out of the TV. So, I don't feel so bad now that I've seen most of it... But N@N did show the "I'm gettin down mama" part, which still is very funny...
