Dear Bob Iger,
I have a proposal for Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment: to make a deal with Amazon MGM Studios for Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment (under its 20th Century Studios Home Entertainment banner) to issue and release, for the first time EVER on Blu Ray, "The Addams Family: The Complete Series," a loving showcase of all 64 half-hour episodes of the hit 1964-1966 sitcom "The Addams Family" 100% Complete, 100% Uncut, AND 100% Unedited, just the way that each and every episode originally aired on the ABC Television Network, with each episode lovingly shown in full frame restored and remastered from the original ABC Television Network Film Presentation Prints, along with Dozens of Bonus Features and Content NOT Included on Volumes 1-3 DVDs of the series. Created by Charles Addams, "The Addams Family" originally aired for 2 full seasons on ABC from September 18, 1964 - April 8, 1966; the show was adapted for Television by David Levy, based on Charles' successful New Yorker cartoons that had been seen since 1942, where they originally had no names. The TV show focused on Gomez Addams (John Astin), a lawyer by trade, and his wife, Morticia (Carolyn Jones), ne Frump, who lived at 000 Cemetery Ridge, along with a series of spooky relatives--among them Uncle Fester (Jackie Coogan), their kids Wednesday (Lisa Loring) and Pugsley (Ken Weatherwax), Grandmama (Blossom Rock), and their butler Lurch (Ted Cassidy), along with their disembodied hand, Thing (Ted Cassidy). FYI: Although Ted Cassidy was, in real life, an accomplished Pianist and Organist, his Piano Organ in "The Addams Family" was dubbed in the Pilot by film/TV Composer Vic Mizzy, who wrote the famous "Addams Family" theme song as well as futurely would write the "Green Acres" theme a year later as performed for that show by its stars Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor in 1965. In the years since "The Addams Family" was untimely cancelled by ABC in 1966, the show has been adapted numerous times--including twice as a cartoon, once in 1973 and again in 1992, as well as that many times on the big screen: 1991's "The Addams Family" with Raul Julia as Gomez and Anjelica Huston as Morticia along with its 1993 sequel, "Addams Family Values," for Paramount Pictures; in addition, a 1998 sitcom, "The New Addams Family," aired on the FOX Family Channel (now Freeform) in 1998, and 2 Animated Movie remakes were released theatrically by MGM. Also, a Broadway Adaptation, "The Addams Family Musical," appeared, starring Nathan Lane. Another FYI: During the '90s "Addams Family" movies, Hollywood legend Raul Julia was battling Stomach Cancer, and the year after "Addams Family Values" would make one more movie, 1994's "Street Fighter," before he died of a Massive Stroke at age 54 while batting Cancer in New York; he later would be buried in his native Puerto Rico after a State Funeral there upon his death. Of all the original TV "Addams Family" actors, only John Astin, who'll be 95 in March, is still very much alive as of this writing. Tentatively, Bob, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment (bannered as 20th Century Studios Home Entertainment) shall issue and release "The Addams Family: The Complete Series" on Blu Ray on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at a cost of ONLY $59.99 wherever Blu Rays are sold. Among the DOZENS of Bonus Features I'd love to see included are the following: "The Making of The Addams Family," a Direct-to-Blu Ray featurette hosted by John Astin featuring Behind-the-Scenes footage of the making of the TV show; and "Charles Addams: A Macabre Frightfest," a Direct-to-Blu Ray featurette celebrating and remembering the legacy of Charles Addams. Sincerely, Steve Arino |
