I grew up watching Happy Days. I loved the show when I was a kid. In fact I was Fonzie for Halloween in 1975. In fact I had two Fonzie posters in my bedroom. But one thing has always bugged me about this show and it came to a head the other night while watching it on TV Land. I forgot the plot but I remeber they mentioned Presidcent Kennedy. So I fiugure i must be around 1962. WHY OH WHY are they wearing hair styles, clothes of 1980? Except for the first two seasons of this show, the clthing styles and hair styles are of the late 70's and early 80's. I could understand the hair, but why the clothes? Has anyone assicaoted with the show given a reason? I mean, the Wonder Years, 70's Show, andBrooklyn Bridge, did better jobs at keeping the visuals close to their eras. In fact, Laverne and Shirley had same problem.

I Think Everyone Who Watches Happy Days Noticed That, I Don't Think Anyone Knows Why They Kept Their Hair And Clothing Styles So 70s -80's-ish, But I Don't Care How Modern The Happy Days Characters Styles Look, It'll Always Be My Favorite Show

I've noticed it too, because I grew up in the early 60's and I know how WE dressed. I never saw anyone in that era with Chachi's hair style. But I just disregard all that. I still love HD.

The women for the most part had the right clothes and stuff. Joanie may not have had typical hair for that period BUT it was curly... some people have ALWAYS had curly hair.
As for the guys...true they let their hair go a bit in later years but it wasn't anything TOO bad..and the pants were never HUGE belbottoms or anything and sometimes they still wore the cuffed pants. Of course you always had Fonzie in his duck tail. Basically I could really care less unless it was something Waay out there(Like Leather) I didn't care. By that time, the characters and the story were more important. Unlike in the beginning where they were trying to set the stage by inserting "Made in the shade" and "Inn like Flynn" all over the place. THAT bothered me more when the SLEDGE-HAMERED the time period. |

Yeah..I think it all started during 1979- before that it was pretty good. Oh meangya, dont even get me started on Chachis Farrah Fawcett wannabe 'do.
As for Laverne & Shirley-- the girls dressed pretty good!!! When it got to be the point where they were in California and stuff...then it got kinda bad. The Wonder Years to me, is the MOST realistic-NON-realistic show there is. Not filming in a live audience is a major part of that because they didnt have to talk real loud and the show was more of a dramady. Happy Days was pretty realistic the first 2 seasons 2.

You Know. Even though the show was made as a 50's show...I Dont really think of it as one. I Just liked it for the Characters and stuff

That kind of annoyed me too, but for the most part I think the show is pretty 50s-ish/early 60s. In fact, I always think "gee, that was risque" when something innuendo-ish is said...then I remember that in 1979 it wouldn't have been risque at all.
I think that although bell-bottoms and stuff are present (and some of those hairstyles--only some though, Fonzie's DA is perfect!), the show still manages to maintain that 50s feel (though I do find myself thinking "well that's not historically accurate" but it doesn't annoy me too much because the characters are, and the show itself is just so great). |
