Sad Sitcoms of today are not as creative as yesterday

I notice that alot of the new shows don't have anymore funny courageous stories like older sitcoms did.Anything from 1998 on up.... shows don't have any real creativity in them anymore.I used to love the stuff that happened on Golden Girls,The Facts Of Life,All In The Family,Family Matters,Fresh Prince just to name a few.The shows are good... just nothing fresh and exciting.I remember I used to love waiting for the new shows because you would never except what crazy thing they would do in that episode. My Wife & Kids is a pretty good show... I have to be honest... the actors have great chemistry but the writing for the episodes suck... I just wish the writers today had more fun with their writing than they did then..

Yeah, That's Sad! But If The Writers Gave It More Thought I'm Sure They Could Make ANY Show Really Good, But They Don't Put Any Thought Into Shows Anymore! Thats The Sad Part

New shows are funnier than old shows IMO.What's so funny about Fonzie Saying "Ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy"?

Yeah, it seems like all the creativity has disappeared in tv shows and movies.

I agree. I never knew how people could find the Fonzie funny or sexy. And alot of the show from the 50-70 were bad. The only ones that were any good from those decades were I Love Lucy, Dick Van Dyke Show, Soap, and Three's Company. Since the 80's shows have gotten much better.

I like the newer shows. I never really understood what was so funny about Gilligan's Island, The Brady Bunch or Leave it to Beaver...come to think of it, neither did the writers because they used laugh tracks to generate laughter.

I like some of the old shows such as The Dick Van Dyke Show, All in the Family, Barney Miller and The Jeffersons.
I think sitcoms got much better during the 80s with Cheers, Cosby, Family Ties, etc, and they've continued to improve.
Seinfeld, Frasier, Everybody Loves Raymond, Friends--good stuff.
All in all, I like the modern shows.

Yea I agree some old shows seem kind of weak in plots, intelligence, and humor. I really enjoy 80s and current sitcoms especially.

Thumbs down

Yea, I like basically the 80's sitcoms, but then they just go downhill from there, with the acception of The Nanny. Other than that, most new sitcoms of today are dull and repetative.

I agree with you on most of these, JanLady, however, I never liked All in The Family (too much shouting!), or Seinfeld (I seem to be the only person in America who didn't think it was funny).

One of the reasons I think the older shows were more creative was because they had to be - you couldn't discuss many of the subjects that are discussed today, and could not use the kind of language that is used on many of today's sitcoms. The writers on a lot of the current show seem to take the easy way out by resorting to profanity and "bathroom humor". I think that more recent shows like "Home Improvement" and "Everybody Loves Raymond" have proven that you can still do a very funny and entertaining show, keep it clean, and do well in the ratings.
