I read the mother's book many years ago, and I don't recall exactly what she said about Kathy, but I don't think it was negative. The reason I think this is because I have read in FP Jr's interviews that he spent summers in Puerto Rico with his grandmother (Freddie Sr's mom), so apparently they were on at least speaking terms.
I do remember, however, that Freddie's mom blamed Carol (Freddie's personal secretary, the one that Freddie scared with the gun) for not calling her the night that Freddie was playing with the gun and ultimately shot himself. Carol did not go over to see him on that fateful night and she did not call Mrs. Preutzel. I don't really think Kathy was to blame. She'd had enough and she was, at that point, concerned about the safety of her son. I read somewhere that Kathy said that Freddie was so stoned sometimes that it was like "sleeping with a zombie." |

That's right! "It's true" he called Carol on that fateful night not to mention a host of other people. This must have been so agonizing for Mrs. Preutzel. I don't know if I would have been so strong....... |

My pleasure, Tracy. I bought the book (paperback) when it first came out. I think it is still in my parents' basement somewhere. I read it several times and I read the Playboy interview. That is quite revealing, if you can get it. I believe it's the June 1977 playboy article. In fact, the movie Can You Hear The Laughter was based on the article.
Here's another tidbit: in the Playboy article the author claims that Freddie had an obsession with Lenny Bruce, the comedian who died of a heroin overdose in the mid-1960s... He drove past Lenny Bruce's house and I believe he even planted a tree somewhere and said, "This is Lenny," or something really weird like that. Freddie even dated Lenny Bruce's daughter (Kitty) for awhile. And when Freddie shot himself Kitty called her mother in tears, saying, "You lost your funny man and now I've lost mine." The magazine is offered on E-bay. |

Freddie's mother's book. NO LUCK! What is the title of her book and the correct name she goes by? Does anyone have any idea where I should start looking? I really would love to find a copy of her book!!!! Thanks for your help. |

Catcopy-have you tried the following online-Bibliofind, Bookfinder, and American Book Exchange (ABE)? Also, try Amazon.com's Zshops and Auctions-they are usually cheaper than Ebay. In addition, used bookstores in your area might have it. Good Luck!
