Sad An Old Flame - Need Advice Pronto!

Okay folks, I need some advice.
TJL needing advice? He seems like a well adjusted guy, his posts are usually spelled correctly, he has this weird obsession with that "M.A.S.H." show, and he spends more time in bars than the cast of "Cheers," but he has never needed help before...

Well believe it folks, I need help.

I seem to have an old flame back in my life, a lovely woman I dated a log time ago, 15 years to be precise, back when I was a carefree teen. We've kept in touch over the years, usually running into each other during the hoildays when I'm making my rounds at my old NJ haunts. We always talk for a while and then she vanishes. Last time I saw her was two years ago...

And now she's back.
She called me out of the blue the other day, and she seems really interested in seeing me, and probably for the first time in years she's single. I don't know, usually I get this vibe when we reunite that she just wants to pal around and laugh about old times, but this time, I sense something different.
Is there a possibility we can start anew?
Is persuing her a bad idea? Is this more thatn you ever wanted to know about TJL neurotic mess and problem drinker?
Oh sure, laugh if you must, but you've never seen this girl in a tank top!

It all depends how you two ended off.(If of course you were boyfriend and girlfriend) Was it good or bad? Is she psycho?!? A booty call would be nice, but if she's some kind of nut that magically transforms into another person "after," then run FAR away. If not, I say go get the booty Rudy!

Thumbs up

If I believed that advise would help you TJL, you know me, I'd give it to you. But cripes,. If you were to stand in front of a line up of 100 psychologists and psycotherapists... and all but one... only just of one of them, told you that you should "Run away, run away--danger, danger!", you'd take the advise of that one psycho person who told you to give it a shot, and see for yourself, wouldn't you?! I know that's what I'd do. But then, I probably qualify as a nut.

My computer reads the red face and the thumbs up backwards. That's why I had to edit this post. Is that a novel problem, or what?

Please, he'd never take advice from a 14 year old, let alone you!

But I say go for it TJL. If she likes you, then score! If she laughs in youre face and leaves, well then you should be able to pick up the peices and go on in youre life. I mean you DO live in NYC.

You might not want to take my advice, because I probably qualify as a nut too. I say go for it.

Oh yeah, if she does turn you down- than it's her loss. I don't know you on a personal level, but you are a great guy. It's her loss if she doesn't accept.

Exclamation Proceed with caution...

I think it's worth a shot as long as you're both clear on what the other one is looking for. She may be looking for another commitment, which is great if you're looking for the same thing. Most women her age are looking to settle down--the ones I know anyway.
I've known couples who have reconnected, and it's worked out great. Often times though, the people have grown so much and are really totally different people, and it doesn't work out. Time will tell.
Personally, going waaaay back to my dating days-- it never paid for me to return to the scene of the crime. A recycled romance can be tricky.
Good luck, and let us know how it turns out. If you don't post this Sunday, we'll assume it went well.

Just because you are getting a different vibe and she called you out of the blue I say this:

I would be careful she is not on the rebound if you feel true affection for her, because there may be pure disaster for you if you fall for her.

Also beware of family problems and not feeling like she belongs anywhere or general confusion on her part.

I say that just in case you see a future, it may not be based on solid ground, a person content with herself. When she feels better again she may just break your heart.

But if all is cool with her and her head is together I say go for it.

Of course if you are just looking for some harmless action that is always fine.

Unless her name is Trish, then run.

Ok, I'm your age and I'm a woman, here are my thoughts:

You've got a woman who looks good in a tank top that you've dated and is now single. You know you enjoy her company and vice versa. She's been out of your life for so long there really is no concern that if things don't go well she won't be your friend anymore. Don't go into this looking for anything, enjoy it and see if something develops. She may be testing the waters for a new relationship, she may be "practicing", she may just need a friend, or she's looking for a good time.
There is another reason you're hesitant that you either don't see or haven't mentioned. Worst case, you're out the cost of a dinner and a couple of drinks. Best case - well, you know

Then maybe you should act like it for once. I'm 15 and I don't seem to have a problem with anybody...I hope.

Anyways, I definately say that you should go for it. But it really depends on what you think about her.
