I love in those days shows here handed to people and they never even needed to audition. Many shows in the 70s were like that. Linda Lavin was selected to do Alice. No one else auditioned. She was picked and they built the show around her and loosely around the movie.
Bea Aruthur appeared on All In The Family once and then was offered her own show.

Not sure if you saw the Staying Alive commercial but she is also in it as a cashier lol Its a shame started so late maybe she could have appeared as a guest on Welcome Back kotter
