My father saw the animated film American Pop when it debuted in theaters in 1981 and he liked the movie because it was very interesting and when it was released on video for the very first time my father bought it and we watched it together as father/daughter time and American Pop is such an amazing movie and how Ralph Bakshi created this film was pure genius. It's a shame that American Pop hasn't been released on Blu-Ray or shown on streaming channels because my dad thinks this movie is such a masterpiece

I have it on DVD, it's my favorite Bakshi film. I didn't see it in 1981, I think the only film of Bakshi's I saw at that time was Lord Of The Rings. It was the late 80s where I really became aware of who Bakshi was and started seeking out his films.

American Pop has an excellent soundtrack. Love Mews Small as Frankie, such a distinct voice.
