Default Have more TV series or movies been made?

Some criteria:

- includes output worldwide

- TV series, not TV episodes

- TV series need not to have been successful, just attempted

- made for TV movies shall go in the movie column

- movies to be counted are feature films, which means

>>>The notion of how long a feature film should be has varied according to time and place. According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences,[2][3] the American Film Institute[4] and the British Film Institute,[5] a feature film runs for more than 40 minutes, while the Screen Actors Guild asserts that a feature's running time is 60 minutes or longer.[6][7] The Centre National de la Cinématographie in France defines it as a 35 mm film longer than 1,600 metres (5,200 ft), which is exactly 58 minutes and 29 seconds for sound films.[8]<<<

I started out thinking it was TV shows, including today’s universe of 1000 streaming channels seemingly each with 1000 new shows each day, but now I’m not sure. Each of those streamers also makes movies.

I’d love to see some numbers on this.

Film did have several decades worth of a head start....! Lots of people never think about silent films anymore, and the "talkies" were going strong before TV came along.

TV didn't even get started until the 1940s, and the more "successful" TV series would be from the 1950s onward.

I don't think you would need to add the made-for-TV movies for film to dominate in this question.

I thought of that too, that the movie industry got a big head start ahead of TV.

I found two sites saying about 4 million movies exist. I'm going to see if I can find any estimates on how many TV series have ever been made.

It's harder to come up with any figures for TV show totals. I found this:

"The list of unique program titles in the U.S. tops 817,000 and continues to grow.." from 2022

https://www.nielsen.com/insights/2022/state-of-play/

But this is a couple years old and it's U.S. only.

That number seems low. I mean, heck, there’s been that many Law and Order series alone.
