Default Explanation for the absence of the Lana character

Never knew it was her decision to leave, I thought it was the producers of the show. She didnt like living inn california combined with not having much to do. So I guess the best explanation for her character was she got tired of chasing Jack and when her lease was up she moved out and never looked back

Yes she left on her own but she was almost forced out. When Joyce and Suzanne complained she got too much airtime the producers greatly reduced her role. If you notice right after A Camping We Will Go, her scenes are greatly cut. She would come in for a few lines and then disappear. In some ways she was like Cindy in season 6.
The character was a mistake. Ritter was against it because he felt it would not make sense for his character Jack to run away from sexual advances of an older, attractive woman.
She did have some great moments on the show. A Camping We Will Go is one of my favorites outside the first 3 seasons. ABC censors had to change the lines when she asks Jack "Hey Tarzan, Can I swing on your tree" The original line was supposed to be " Hey Tarzan, can I swing on your vine"

The character didnt really have a purpose of being on the show. She wasnt friends or related to Janet and Chrissy. She was older than the trio and Larry. She wasnt dating Jack or Larry. She was dating Mr. Furley. She was just a tenant who lived in the building without a real connection to the others. Cindy wasnt no better but she was Chrissy cousin's which gave her a purpose.

That's true. She was only pivotal in 2 episodes: The Camping one and the one where everyone thinks Jack wrote to Dear Abby as "Cookie."
I thought the way she was introduced was pretty lame. Larry was working as an escort and needed help with an older woman with lots of money. Jack pretends to be gay with her but she still goes after him. The chase was fun for awhile but it got old. The Ropers exit created such a vacuum for sexual humor. She hit the mark on a few episodes but that was it. I actually can understand why Joyce and Suzanne got jealous. Jack's banter and shtick was being directed towards Lana and not the roommates anymore.

Lana was chasing Jack who rejected her advances. Furley was chasing Lana who was rejecting his advances. IMHO it worked much better with an older married couple, the Ropers. IMHO they had the funniest lines on Threes Company.

I already made a thread about this, but I think that Lana should have been introduced as Mr. Furley’s wife. That way it would have been understandable as to why Jack kept turning down a hot older woman like her and it also would have been hysterical to see her be the female Mr. Roper in the relationship, constantly trying to get out of going to bed with Mr. Furley.

I also find it interesting that the article mentioned they were initially looking for an older woman to play the Lana role. If Lana wasn’t going to be Mr. Furley’s wife, it probably would have made more sense for a 65+ actress to play the part.

The producers realized it was no need for another character. The trio, Larry and Mr. Furley was enough. And since they was a top 2 show was why the addition even necessary? She may have been the most pointless character in sitcom history
