Thought Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd Speak Out On the 'Charlie's Angels' Reboot on ABC

Now this just feels wrong: Two of the original Charlie’s Angels – Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd — told EW exclusively that they have not been asked to appear in the Angels reboot that’s in the works at ABC.

“They have obviously made a mistake!” joked Smith, while walking the red carpet for the 10th Annual Movies for Grownups Awards Monday in Beverly Hills. “I don’t know [whether I'd be interested]. It would depend on the role. Not sure I would want to repeat myself but it would depend on how they revisited the Angels concept. I think it is great. It could be a big hit if is well written and cast properly. It’s probably going to be fun to watch, either way.”

“They haven’t called me yet, either,” admitted Ladd. “The chemistry between the girls has to be right. That was really what it was about for us and what made our show so successful. People really enjoyed the chemistry we had together. And let’s face it — we were hot.”

EW checked and it turns out that Al Gough and Miles Millar – the Smallville scribes who are penning the reboot for ABC – have no plans to include the alums in the pilot that will feature Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor and Annie Ilonzeh as the leading ladies.

ABC will decide in late April or early May whether to pick it up to series.

If this is a remake, then I don't know how you'd work Cheryl and Jaclyn into this. If it's an update, with newer characters, perhaps Cheryl and Jaclyn could make guest appearances, but let's face it, they're over 60 now and probably not up to having to do action and stunts.

It's sad when actresses can't let go of their characters.

I would love to see the original Angels in the updated version. It would be nice seeing Cheryl, Jaclyn, Kate, or even Shelley and Tanya.

I highly doubt Kate would do it. The others I could see participating, with the possible exception of Shelley Hack, who is now retired from showbiz. Maybe she could be coaxed back for a cameo or something.

I dont really pay much attention to most tv nowadays and I had no idea that they were going to do a new CA!! I highly doubt i'll watch it. I do think though that it would be cool if they did ask the others back for at least a one time appearance. Hope the show does well but I have a hard time with remakes of movies/tv shows that I liked. I think I hold them to too high a standard be that good or bad.

This really is a "no-brainer", I believe Miss Barrymore also has something to do with this series. As a tribute to "Charlie", who really has passed away, he could have retired years ago and of course his best "angels" would have taken over. Drop the hokey not seeing the boss stuff and if everyone in 2011 associated with the series is so into "women-power", than the new angels should be taking their orders from Miss Ladd & Miss Smith who could make brief cameos at the beginning of the episodes, or shoot all their scenes from another location like skyping their info to the new angels. That way, they could bring in the more expensive senior angels and shoot muliple episodes in one day, again saving money. Yes it still is "Charlie's Angels", but nothing but women should be in charge, but it still could be called "The Townsend Agency". While I'm at it, they should be honest and say "Jill Monroe" also passed away, as well as "Bosley". These type of attachments would bring in the original viewers as well but not baffle new viewers if it was done in brief ways.
