Default My favorite "Andy Griffith" episodes

---PART 1: THE BLACK AND WHITE EPISODES

THOSE GOSSIPIN' MEN (Jan. 16, 1961)

The men of Mayberry mistake a travelling shoe salesman for a Hollywood talent scout.

THE PICKLE STORY (Dec. 18, 1961)

Andy, Barney, and Opie pretend to like Aunt Bee's homemade pickles.

CONVICTS AT LARGE (Dec. 10, 1962)

Floyd and Barney are held hostage by 'The Fun Girls' in a secluded cabin.

MAN IN A HURRY (Jan. 14, 1963)

A man who is hoping to get his car fixed before an important meeting has trouble adjusting to the slow, leisurely pace of Mayberry.

ANDY DISCOVERS AMERICA (March 4, 1963)

Andy's first meeting with Helen Crump.

OPIE THE BIRDMAN (Sept. 30, 1963)

Opie is determined to raise a group of orphaned birds after he accidentally kills their mother with his slingshot. This episode proves without a doubt what a great actor Ron Howard is.

THE SERMON FOR TODAY (Oct. 21, 1963)

This episode can be considered as the opposite of "Man In A Hurry". The citizens of Mayberry seem to be in a rush to organize a band concert after being advised during Mass to slow down more.

CITIZEN'S ARREST (Dec. 16, 1963)

Gomer makes a citizen's arrest when he catches Barney make an illegal U-turn.

GOMER PYLE USMC (May 18, 1964)

My favorite episode, and the pilot for the long-running series, where Gomer decides to join the Marines, and engages in the first of a long series of battles with Sgt. Carter.

---THE COLOUR EPISODES

OPIE'S JOB (Sept. 13, 1965)

Opie is involved in a spirited competition with another boy to land his first job.

AUNT BEE TAKES A JOB (Dec. 6, 1965)

Aunt Bee takes a job in a print shop which is a front for counterfeiters.

DINNER AT EIGHT (Jan. 9, 1967)

Andy somehow gets stuck being invited to three different spaghetti dinners on the same night.

A TRIP TO MEXICO (Sept. 25, 1967)

Aunt Bee wins a trip to Mexico where her friendship with Clara and Myrtle becomes severely tested.

OPIE'S DRUGSTORE JOB (Jan. 15, 1968)

While working in the drugstore, Opie accidentally breaks a perfume bottle.

Honorable mention: The episodes with Ken Berry as Sam Jones which led to "Mayberry RFD".

Hi - I'm new to these boards.

My particular favorite episodes are:

The Pickle Story

Sermon For Today

Man in a Hurry

The Bank Job

Goober and the Art of Love

Some really classic lines in all these episodes!

my all time favorite episode is without doubt "Opie the Birdman".
The relationship between Andy and Opie is so special and this episode really sums it up. I well up everytime I see it when Andy opens the window and tells Opie to listen to the birds crying for there mother. I love the way Opie takes responsibility and "raises" the birds and ultimately lets them fly away--with the knowledge that he was a good "mother". It also has a great last line. Also some wonderful Don Knotts comedy in between.

My runner up would be "Convicts at Large" which is a wonderful, pure comedy episode. The work done by Don Knotts and Howard McNear is excellent.

I watched the TVLAND reunion show and the writer of this episode told how he had intended to end the episode much sooner. He said that he stopped typing, but the typewriter kept writing....I'm assuming this is an exageration. *LOL* Anyway, he mentioned how the very last lines just sort of popped out from no where, and he still thinks a divine force aided him in writing that. Most people admit that this very last part is their fave because it is so heartwarming. I just find it fascinating how that last line was never planned out, butsort of just happened. Now THAT is what I call creative inspiration.

Default My Favorite Episode

One of my favorites was the one where Aunt Bee wants a bed jacket for her birthday, Andy buys her pickle jars instead. I also liked the one where the paster comes to town to talk about slowing down and enjoying life. (I am very bad with the names of the episodes) I would love to see all the special Aunt Bee shows on one tape. They already sell Barney and Opie tapes.

Ditto to that...
My favorites are:
Opie the Birdman. I had the same thing happen to me when I was a kid. Sling shots are fun but when you're a kid you just don't know that you have the power to END a life. It's one of the few mistakes as a kid that you can't take back.

Citizens Arrest! I laugh every single time I hear Barney say that in my head!
Don't know the name of this one. Barney (Al, lol, ) and Floyd in the cabin with the ladies who broke out of prison. I think that one is my all time favorite.

Thanks for the welcome! The show in question is a true classic. It's called Convicts at large. "You better phone him, Al"
