Post News Article on Entertainment Tonight about Mindy and Weakest Link

Sitcom Stars Vs. "The Weakest Link"!

August 01, 2001
"The Weakest Link," featuring sharp-tongued host ANNE ROBINSON squaring off against a field of quick-thinking contestants, has become a huge hit. Now, NBC's hot British game-show import is calling on some familiar faces from TV's past to match wits -- and memories -- with Robinson!

Included in the guest list for a special celebrity edition of "The Weakest Link" are MINDY COHN from "The Facts of Life"; DANNY "The Partridge Family" BONADUCE; BARRY LIVINGSTON from "My Three Sons"; "The Courtship of Eddie's Father"'s BRANDON CRUZ; MARLA GIBBS of "The Jeffersons"; MARC PRICE from "Family Ties"; "The Love Boat"'s LAUREN TEWES; and J.J. WALKER of "Good Times" fame.

Though some of these classic TV stars have been largely out of the spotlight since their heyday, "The Partridge Family"'s Bonaduce has stayed in the news, with his Los Angeles radio show and his new syndicated TV talk show, "The Other Half," slated to debut in the fall. Bonaduce has also made some unwanted headlines due to his well-documented troubles with drugs and alcohol.

But Bonaduce maintains an upbeat attitude despite his problems. Since he's competing on "The Weakest Link" for charity, any of his winnings will go to a recovery program called The Clair Foundation. "I figure if I just give them all my prize money they'll just keep a room ready for me at all times," Danny jokes.

"The Facts of Life"'s Mindy Cohn has starred in several films for The Disney Channel since her sitcom days, and on the set of "Link" Mindy talked about looking forward to an upcoming "Facts of Life" reunion film. "I feel like it's going to be a two-hour Nick at Nite episode," Mindy says. "Considering we're on every night right now, it just seems like a really good time."

For Marc Price, who played "Skippy" on "Family Ties," his "Weakest Link" visit is a chance to win money for his close friend MICHAEL J. FOX and the charity which bears his name, the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation. "Michael J. Fox has always been a hero of mine," Marc says. "First, starting as a comedy tutor, but now as a person, as a father -- courageous, brave, an inspiration to me all over again."

For Lauren Tewes of "The Love Boat," her game show appearance is bittersweet. She is competing for the ALS Foundation, and Lauren reveals to ET that, sadly, her husband MICHAEL is in what she describes as the final stages of the disease. "I spend most of my time caring for him and trying to live our last moments together," Tewes says.

About the daunting presence of tough-talking "Link" host Robinson, who joked that her celebrity guests' brains should be featured on "Where Are They Now?," classic TV veterans like J.J. Walker refuse to be intimidated. "I worked the Apollo Theater," Walker recalls. "I was the emcee when a guy actually got shot on stage. So this is nothing!"

The celebrity edition of "The Weakest Link" is slated to air on NBC in the fall -- and for much more fun from their set with the stars of classic TV, tune in to ET tonight!
