Anything worth noting on any of them? I'm looking for some of them on youtube, but man, it's pretty slim pickings. I know she was the Password grand champion, doing more of them than anyone else. I think she did about 86 of them, but she didn't do that many HS episodes. About 20 or so right? I guess they do a week's worth (all five episodes) in one day but have you change wardrobe for each episode and you get it done in an 8-10 hour work day. Be kinda stupid to have guests come back every day to do a shoot.
But I'm curious how she did on there and who she was on there with? These were the Peter Marshall ones, right? Her, Paul Lynde, George Gobel and some of the 70's mainstays I assume. |

Thanks for the link. Really such a different kind of show than Password. You have so much more to do and you have to be really quick-thinking on Password where on the squares, you may not even be called in a half-hour. Sometimes you might get called once and you're rarely ever called on more than three times to answer three questions. Kind of a bore if you're sitting in one of the squares, I'd imagine.

On Password they were there for about 11 minutes so you got much more of them and as well more as themselves while on HS it is a bit more contrived & staged with it being somewhat of an act & being a part rather then just themselves as they are on PW. PW was more an intellectual interchange while HS was a series of one liners, which was why Paul Lynde was so good at it. HS was an NBC show & Liz usually was on it when she had an NBC TV Movie upcoming like Dark Victory, The Awakening Land etc. Yes these were the Peter Marshall Primetime HS episodes & it was generally the norm that all gameshows shot a weeks worth in a single day. I have 23 of Liz's appearances on PW & PW+ and there were several dozen other appearances she made in the 1971 to 1975 era that have been lost at least for the moment. I think my estimation would be that Liz was in about 24 HS episodes. Hopefully they will be found someday soon. Larry Tate

..Liz's appearances from the nighttime syndicated edition of the show (1973) on GSN, several years ago. It wasn't a good evening for her- never chosen once during the entire program!

Password, Password Plus, The Hollywood Squares and a 1955 game show called "Down you Go" were the only Game Shows Elizabeth Montgomery was ever on. Family Feud ?, she would have had to have her parents & brother be there with her which they never would have considered doing, especially her parent being divorced by then. Very true though that in Password Liz was in her environment & clearly had a blast. She loved Jeopardy & watched it regularly & once while on Password Plus even blasted NBC about their dropping it. Well, she could've been on a celebrity version of Family Feud - they would often pit famous male stars opposite famous female stars, "saints vs. sinners", etc. Blasting NBC for cancelling Jeopardy - I'm guessing she wasn't a Lin Bolen fan.

I was hoping to find Liz on those Dean Martin roasts or the Dean Martin Variety Hour since my dad bought copies of all of them that they offered on those infomercials but best I can tell, she didn't do a single one of them, oh well!

She & Dean got along great when they made Who's Been Sleeping in bed? together in 1963. Who was Lin Bolen?, was she a star of a show that replaced Jeopardy? Larry Tate

^ Lin Bolen was the NBC Vice President of Daytime Programming, from 1972-78. She was responsible for cancelling several game shows, including Jeopardy and Concentration. She created a show called Stumpers, which was a ripoff of Password (and ironically hosted by Allen Ludden). It was cancelled after only 13 weeks in 1976, and was essentially the beginning of the end of her tenure at NBC. Lin Bolen was also the inspiration for Faye Dunaway's character in the movie Network.
