Default Imagine Golden Palace with Dorothy...

Imagine if Dorothy didn't leave and they all went to the Golden Palace...do you think it would have lasted?

A. If Dorthy would've stayed it would've remained The Golden Girls.

B. If that DID happen I'm sure it would've survived a little longer.

Blanche: There must be homosexuals who date women.
Sophia: Yeah, they're called lesbians.

I just watched TV Tales on E! about the Golden Girls, and like Betty White said, not having Dorothy on was like cutting the leg off a table...and the show was out of balance. I think GG could have gone on another 2 or 3 years w/o Dorothy.....maybe if her sister Gloria moved in to take her place. Golden Palace probably would have stayed on a little longer with Dorothy. Also, I think they should have kept the house and just worked at the hotel.

I agree about keeping the house. All in the family did that when it became archie bunker's place.

You don't have to imagine it. Bea Arthur guest starred twice on The Golden Palace and even with her, it still wasn't the same. Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sophia work best in the Golden Girls premise.

I actually think that Golden Palace was just as good without Dorothy. The one time she did come back to visit, I didn't care for her character too much--she was cranky, nasty, mean and rather unplesant. Bea played her a little different than she did on Golden Girls. I think the ultimate demise of GP wasn't as much Dorothy's absence as it was the fact that they focused waaaay too much on some new supporting characters who just weren't that funny.

I think that even if they still moved into the hotel, BUT Dorothy stayed, the show would have been at least a little more successful. Making Roland and Chuy such prominent characters was also a mistake.
