Default Spring Cleaning; Who still does it?

I was watching an episode of The Waltons and they were Spring cleaning. It brought to mind my Mom who did this every Spring. Cleaning out kitchen cupboards, washing walls, etc. She was very thorough, Fortunately this was done while we were at school so we got out of most of it.

Does anyone here still do this annual chore? I used to when I was still young and energetic but now when something needs sprucing up I do the one thing and leave it at that.

How about you?

Funny I was talking to a friend in PA yesterday and she lives ALONE in maybe 400 ft apt and she has hired a young gal to help Spring Clean...I saID TO Her "clean what? and it's a part of the perfectionism M.O. -- I said chill out and spend better time meditating for good in the world including her health..... You got some dust? So do I and I blow it away or now and then use a duster. I keep tidy but steer from the Perfect Stuff......

Cleaning was a huge part of the older folks life and still is for a lot.....I keep tidy and that is ENOUGH....

In all fairness and having lived on both coasts, the more Eastern folks spend a lot more time indoors as do the Westeners... at life,

I doubt it has anything to do with you Caroline. This topic probably just doesn't speak to the yoinger generation who doesn't get what it's about. I was just recalling what life was like back when we were growing up. Oh well.......

I am glad that I got to raise my kids in the 70's. My husband had a skilled trades job at GM and we were able to buy our home. My kids ran the neighborhood and I really never worried about them. Their friends were all within a 1/4 mile distance from our home . It was a good time for us.
But of course there was the oil crisis whuch was worrisome. But times were still good for ius. All of our neighbors were GM employed. I really feel for families today. It's a more dangerous world .

Yes! My Mom , Aunts and Grandmoms were really big into Spring cleaning !" With me it doesn't have to necessarily be Spring , sometimes I really get the " Cleaning bug ". Trying to gather up old clothing and things for donation and really try to deep clean and spruce up. But it ends up me basically giving up and it's not much different than my usual house cleaning!

I did a MAJOR cleaning out of years of clothes and just drawers oif STUFF about 10+ yrs ago, a lot of my cupboards are BARE, very Freeing and others could use my no longer needed stuff.

The longer one lives, the more stuff one has that "owns them". this is very TRUE.

I think it is a good idea. Gives the house a fresh look. But today with women and men working any day of week, I don't think 75% of people do spring cleaning. . I try to vacuum once a month but with a house mate who a bit of clutterer it is hard. Also a good portion of people who can afford it, hired a Merry Maid type person
