Lightbulb 'Jeopardy!,' 'Wheel of Fortune' renewed through 2013-14 season

What is a two-year extension, Alex

"Jeopardy!" and "Wheel of Fortune" have been reupped through the 2013-14 season on the ABC-owned TV stations, where they've dominated the prime access slots for decades.

Both gameshows, produced by Sony Pictures Television and sold by CBS Television Distribution, were set to have their deals end in 2012.

"Wheel" and "Jeopardy!" have long been mainstays and are huge profit centers for both CBS (which acquired them when the Eye bought King World) and Sony. "Wheel" is tops in gameshow syndication, while "Jeopardy!" is No. 2.

Renewals mark a constant in a quickly changing syndie landscape. "Oprah" is going off the air next year and other talkshows -- specifically "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and a new chatfest headed by Rosie O'Donnell -- are looking to fill the void.

Terms of the renewal were not clear but local ABC stations, severely hurt by the ad recession and slow economy, were looking for better deals than the one signed in the 2007.

"Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek and "Wheel" emcee Pat Sajak have also reportedly extended their respective contracts.

News was first reported by TVMoeJoe.com

Thumbs up

I can just imagine Alex, Pat and Vanna doing those shows while in wheelchairs, walkers, etc.

That is great news. And I wish that on "Wheel of Fortune",they would offer more prizes(dining room sets, living room sets, etc.)in the bonus round,in addition to the money and cars. And it would be great if they brought back losers from the past (those people who won only $1000),so they could win more..In other words, keep it fre*****hey freshened up "Jeopardy"by giving the second and third place contestants $1000 (for third)and $2000(for second),whereas before they got nothing. So why not "Wheel of Fortune"?Who knows? They MAY do it.

Remember the old days on "Wheel of Fortune" when contestants got to choose their prizes based on how much money they won? "I'll take the trip to Hawaii, the dinette set, the trampoline, and I'll take the rest on a gift certificate." I wish they'd go back to that!

I remember the early days of Wheel of Fortune with Chuck Woolery where winning contestants would go shopping after every round.

But I don't think they ever will, because Pat Sajak has said(on "Regis and Kelly " when he was substitute host,he said that part was boring. He also this past season(or last,it was after Merv Griffin died),he kind of dissed the one-time shopping segment. Now don't get me wrong.Pat is a darned good host, and "Wheel of Fortune"is a good show, but I think they should add more prizes (dining room sets, living room sets, etc.)to the bonus round wheel instead of offering just cars and ca*****hat way,it would freshen it up a bit. And,I don't think I've ever heard announcer Charlie 0'Donnell or Vanna White dissing the one-time shopping round like Pat Sajak has.Well, anyway,I'm glad both "Jeopardy"and "Wheel of Fortune"have been renewed through the 2013-2014 season.

Same here! When they took that part away, it made me lose interest. To be honest, I haven't watched the show in over 20 years, but my grandmother still loves it. I can't stand Jeopardy, it makes me fall asleep.

"Wheel" I like, but it seems that it is getting tired to me. "Jeopardy!" I never understood. Alex Trebek is like watching paint dry!

One of my grandsons can also imagine the game shows continuing their runs until Pat, Vanna, Charlie, Alex, and/or Johnny end up just walking away or collapsing (suddenly) and turning to ash and/or dust. They'd just crumble and the management will have them sweeped into a wastebasket and they'd be gone!
