It looks like the tub has one of those overflow do hickeys but it overflows anyway.
Have you ever overflown the tub or sink? |

I think a tub with the water running that fast would overflow like it did.
Never had that happen, but water can sure be a problem. Too much rain, and no sump pump. Or the water heater develops a leak. |

I put stoppers in our overflow thing so when I take a baff I can fill it up to the very top and lay in it for awhile.......

It's important to remember that a partially clogged drain line can cause water to overfill a tub, given enough water sent down there, regardless of the tub having an "overflow" feature. If there is a clear line though, there should be no filling past its level - though full-blast will overwhelm drainage, as stevea indicated.
I had a slow-running upstairs bathroom sink with overflow ports. When I got my new water heater in the basement, I followed instructions to turn on the faucet in the farthest-away sink, and that was the one. So while I was in the basement and therefore (forgetting) not watching the sink, after an hour or so it overflowed to the floor. Luckily a thick throw rug absorbed almost all of the water, so I just took that out of there and let it dry. I have a lot of plumbing experience, any questions be sure to ask. My niece's basement floor drain overflowed and I cleared it easily with my accordion-style plunger. |
