Default Kenneth McDuff on American Justice

Not sure if many of you can catch this in time, but American Justice on A&E is airing "Free to Kill Again," which is the story of Kenneth McDuff.

It's on RIGHT NOW.

I watched most of it earlier today. I guess I'm a wus but some of that stuff was brutal. I didn't want to hear in detail about the various types of torture inflicted on that poor Colleen Reed so I kept muting that part. I didn't hear any mention of Angela Hammond just that they suspected he killed many more women than he admitted to. Its so infuriating to know that he had already been convicted of killing 3 people and sent to Death Row and then eventually gets released (due to overcrowding I think) and goes on to murder many more people.

I caught the last 20 minutes late this afternoon. I missed the Colleen Reed details, other than the very end when he led them to her body. Supposedly he knew that area very well from his youth. He told them to move over one length of the machinery and sure enough, that's exactly where her body was. The show said the landscape had changed quite a bit from the time of her death seven years earlier, so authorities couldn't find the body via the map alone.

McDuff was so self-centered even to the end. Weeks earlier he said he couldn't lead them to Reed's body because he knew that was the one they wanted, and if he gave up that info he thought they wouldn't have use for him, and suspend grub privileges. This from a guy in his final weeks before execution.

I'd like the see the entire episode so give me suitable warning, not this RIGHT NOW nonsense. I was out betting women's basketball games when your RIGHT NOW was posted.

That is so bogus McDuff got released, even after committing three murders. 3 murders is enough to qaulify as serial killer in my book, and given that most criminals are repeat offenders, that should have sent up a red flag to them to keep him behind bars as letting him go would mean that there was a strong likelihood that he would kill again, and sure enough. On the other hand, people like Johnny Lee Wilson get put behind bars without a trial. I think McDuff was imprisoned in Texas? There must be alot of big-time criminals in Texas if a three time murderer gets released. If Texas is so overcrowded, couldn't they have just transferred him somewhere?

Well in my opinion McDuff was not a serial killer in 1966, or at least those 3 killings d idnt make him a serial killer. The reason why is because he did them all on the same night. Obviously that doesnt make McDuff any less of a murderer and he certainly became a serial killer after he was paroled, the guy was just out of control and I think crack and alcohol binges only added to the troubles for him. The only reason I got technical on the serial killer stuff was because I thought a serial killer is a person who kills on more than one occassion?

I did see the American Justice piece and it was well done. They interviewed Colleen Reed's sister Lori Bible on there and other relatives of the victims. IT was pretty bad to hear about Colleen Reed's torture and death since it seems she got it much worse than most. I think McDuff still stated that he was not responsible for Colleen Reed's abduction in the sense that he shifted the blame to Worley and McDuff made it seem like he was just along for the ride. Since McDuff said Worley "picked out" Colleen Reed. However they both took turns raping her up and down the interstate and various other things. I do actually believe Worley when he says that McDuff was the one that killed Colleen Reed, I even believe Worley that Colleen Reed was probably alive when he left her with McDuff. Just very sad and horrible.

Default Bad Boy From Rosebud

Just a few days ago, I came across a copy of the book Bad Boy From Rosebud at Brooks Pharmacy. The copy I saw was in paperback, and was actually under the shorter title of "Bad Boy." But it was by the same author, Gary Lavergne. I bought the book.

Although I am in the early stages of reading it, I will say that Gary Lavergne said it best when he wrote the following (on page 6): Had Kenneth McDuff been executed after the Broomstick Murders of 1966, the young women he murdered from 1989 to 1992 would be alive today.

I haven't read Bad Boy From Rosebud yet, but I've read No Remorse a couple of times and just finished reading it again a few minutes ago.

I'm watching the American Justice episode right now (searched youknowwhere for American Justice Free To Murder Again) and to see the people involved..... the 1966 murder car being towed, Colleen Reed's sister, the prosecutor, accomplices, other people in the case... it's eerie.

Looking at pictures of McDuff in his forties, he's just a creepy looking felon who you know you wouldn't want to encounter, but the AJ episode showed a picture of him at 20 years old, and even at that young of an age, he had cold, dead, evil eyes.

While reading No Remorse, I was hoping that maybe Louise Sullivan's killer might not seem so scary to her at first , because he was very close to her age, but no. He was a heck of a terror inducing 20 year old.

I have that episode. For those of you who don't know about the Broomstick murders, it's very horrifying. The victims were 18 year old Robert Brand, his 18year old girlfriend Edna Sullivan, and Brand's 16 year old cousin Mark Dunman. McDuff had them all locked in the trunk of his car at one point, then raped Sullivan.

He was sent to the electric chair twice, but received last minute stays of executions. He received 3 death sentences, but was later commuted to a life sentence.

I actually change the channel when this episode runs. I've seen it twice, and each time I was so disturbed by every single detail of McDuff's story--his childhood, the 1966 murders, the release back into society , the description of Colleen Reed's murder, his interview footage, even the images of his grave marker in Hunstville with nothing on it but his ID number--it's all horrifying. His execution could never, ever atone for the atrocities he committed.

I also found this episode too disturbing to watch. I wanted to punch him in the head repeatedly during his interview towards the end (I think it was right before his execution) where he keeps smiling and saying he's innocent and that the reporter is giving him a hard time. I also cannot watch the UM Colleen Reed segment anymore because I think about the horrible details you learn from the AJ episode. Just awful. And agree 100% about his execution. The mother of one of his victims said it best that his execution didn't even begin to cover what he put his victims through while murdering them. He is easily one of the biggest lowlifes I have ever heard of.

I'm about to watch this episode...but I wanted to ask a quick question at the risk of threadjacking: What are the best non-UM true crime shows? I tried searching the forum for answer, but my search came up empty (perhaps it was the way I was phrasing my search). American Justice and Cold Case Files seem to be the most popular, and I've seen some of those (though not nearly all of them). I'm familiar with some of the ID Channel stuff like Disappeared and Nightmare Next Door (they left me underwhelmed).

Any other suggestions? Again, if there is already a thread covering this, feel free to delete this comment. Thanks!!

Have you seen Forensic Files or City Confidential? I've heard those are pretty popular, but it's been ages since I've watched an episode myself.

I would recommend searching in the True Crime subforum here for other suggestions. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/...play.php?f=647
