Default DFE, Terrytoons, etc.

Who now has the rights to DFE cartoons (Pink Panther, Inspector, et al.)? And how did Weigel lose the rights? That’s a lotta cartoons that MeTV Toons could have put on the sked.

Also, how about Terrytoons? Who has the rights today?

MeTV Toons’ novelty may well wear off shortly, IF they keep running the Hanna-Barbera series they have into the ground. Many shows like Wacky Races only did 16 episodes, and it’s on Mon-Fri??

JMO.

And hey hey hey, what about Yogi Bear and the early HB cartoons from late 50s/early 60s? I thought for sure it would run Yogi, Huck, Quick Draw, et al. I certainly HOPE it’s not another “music licensing” deal…..but I’m afraid….

I hope Warner is working on the H-B material from the 60s, such as the Yogi, Huck, and Quick Draw shows (and all their associated characters) (judging from what Boomerang has aired, the current TV prints are in bad shape). When I checked, I found that whatever that Yogi is that MeTV Toons is running now has only a few episodes.

Also, I think the DFE material is owned by MGM, other than the shorts done for Warner.

The DFE/ United Artists theatrical Pink Panther, Inspector, Roland/Ratfink and etc cartoons are owned by Amazon.

Terrytoons, Betty Boop and the 60's Popeye television cartoons are owned by Paramount /Viacom and whoever the heck they will soon be merging with. Paramount also holds the rights to some of the other Depatie-Freleng and Sunbow (King Features) entertainment.

The Archies, Sabrina, He-Man 60's television Magoo cartoons, are owned by Universal/Dreamworks/Classic Media

I figure Wildbrain Entertainment holds the rights to George Of The Jungle.

Don't know who owns the rights to Bob Clampetts Benny And Cecil.

We do know that Warner Archive is working on some of their properties, such as remastering (the 60s) Top Cat using the original negatives (possibly to be shown on MeTV Toons, but will get a Blu-Ray release in late August). This would include restoring the original, per-episode credits. Which is what should have been done with the early Flintstones, and still should be, if the negatives exist.

The original credits on each TC episode? Ooh baby! Does that mean that Kin Platt didn’t write all 30 episodes? 😜

Good point. I think they are still using that defective remastered copy of the Bugs cartoon, Rabbit's Kin, which has been corrected by Warners.

And the unrestored print of Beanstalk Bunny.
