I was a fan ever since the show started. I grew up with the show and before that, was a fan of 'Make Room for Daddy/The Danny Thomas Show'--and of course Andy Griffith was a spinoff of that show. The Andy Griffith show, IMO, is one of the best sitcoms of all time.

I first became a fan way back in the 60s, when CBS was rerunning it on weekday mornings as ANDY OF MAYBERRY.
Back then, I was a HUGE fan of GOMER PYLE: U.S.M.C. but I didn't know it was a spinoff of AG (which I also didn't know was still showing original episodes in prime-time ). On the Gomer episode where Ron Howard guest starred as Opie, I didn't know that it was the same character as on AG; and when Andy was on that show at the end; I also didn't know it was the same character as on TAGS. It wasn't until later when they reran the TAGS episode where Gomer joined the marines, that I realized the 2 shows were connected.

My mother was watching one of the Andy Griffith show marathons on TBS many years ago, I think it was 48 hours of Andy. I had never seen or even heard of the show before. There was nothing on my tv so I sat down and started watching it with her. It did not take me long before I was hooked. I have seen every black and white episode multiple times, and I never get tired of it.

While in college in 1986 or 87 when it used to be on TBS and three or four local channels. I starting recording them and just fell in love with the show that I never was able to see growing up. We didn't have cable and it was off the air before I was old enough to watch TV.
