Question Character life story / lore questions - Squiggy first

Just started Laverne & Shirley for the first time lately (after watching a bunch of Happy Days), it rules! Just magical stuff. Figured I'd make a topic to ask about the characters, and also if you want to share interesting or wacky tidbits from offhand lines etc.

So, my question, in s1e13 Hi Neighbor, the one where Lenny and Squiggy move in. In the beginning at Shotz Beer. Squiggy says this fascinating line, the DVD doesn't seem to have subtitles so It could be either of these:

"The doc give me 40 dollars a week for the busted melon. I guess I can always go live in a storm drain."

"The dock give me 40 dollars a week for the busted melons."

Either version is interesting, what a wild life Squiggy leads. Also an inflation calculator says this would be about $434 today, not bad. So either he somehow is getting money from a doctor for having a head problem (busted melon), or he has a way to get "busted melons" that a dock (long shoremen?) will pay him for every week.

What do you make of this, folks? And any other fascinating tidbits like that?

Squiggly says, “They’re docking me $40 a week for the busted melons. I guess I can always go live in a storm drain.” He’s referring to the accident he had in the Shotz truck he drives for his job delivering beer. The accident was mentioned by Laverne & Shirley prior to Sqiggy sitting down with them. Apparently, Squiggy sideswiped a melon truck and the company had to pay for 6,000 melons. He’s being sarcastic about living in a storm drain explaining he can’t afford an apartment by himself while his pay is being docked.

That makes a lot more sense, thanks. Also I had heard that Archie Bunker worked at a dock, I think that was in the back of my mind somewhere, Squiggy moonlighting or something.

Anybody have any interesting one liners that give unexpected or wacky life tidbits for characters they like on the show?
