Default Why Hasn't I've Got a Secret Had a Successful Revival?

Of the three long running panel games, What's My Line?, I've Got a Secret and To Tell the Truth, only I've Got a Secret has had four short-lived revivals since the original was axed in 1967. It also has led me to ask why I've Got a Secret has not had a long running revival, unlike What's My Line? and To Tell the Truth which had long runs in syndication?

The 1972 revival of I’ve Got A Secret was the best IGAS revival in my view but it should’ve lasted longer like the 70s eras of WML and TTTT was.

Steve Allen was great as host, lots of funny quips and jokes. It was a very good revival with good panelists as well.

Steve Allen took over the show in 1964 for its final three CBS seasons, after original host Garry Moore took a long, two-plus year vacation. When Moore returned in 1966, he briefly revived his variety show.

Your mention of The Garry Moore Show reminded me of "The Kirward Derby" hat, a spoof of Durward Kirby's name on Bullwinkle and Rocky, since Kirby may be best known for Moore's show. I always found that to be very clever and hilarious...!

Ahhh the Kirward Derby. The story is called “Missouri Mish Mash” if you need to look for it.

It so happened, and you can look it up, that Durward Kirby saw NO humor in that, and threatened to sue Jay Ward over it. Jay responded, “Go ahead and sue. We need the publicity.”

One part had Boris and Fearless Leader fighting each other over control of the Derby. As the chapter was ready to end, the narrator asked, “Oh, who will win?” to where both Boris & FL look into the camera and say in unison, “What does it matter? We’re BOTH bad guys!” Narrator: “Oh…yes…”
