I've been meaning to post about this a few days ago, but kept forgetting. I don't know much about the show, maybe another member of the board can fill in the pieces. This show is supposed to be about 3 or 4 crime fighters? Barbara Gordon is in a wheel chair in this show. Batman and Catwoman being married. That's all I really know about the show. I did come across this news bit at zap2it.com and it will probably fill in a few more blanks.

I can't wait to see it now too. Wouldn't it be cool if one of the original Batman stars made an appearance on Birds of Prey? That would be pretty cool.

Yeah that would be cool. What happen to Batgirls mother? Is she dead or what? I don't think any Batman series talked about her.

I think it was in the Siren episode when they mentioned her. I can't remember exact quotes, but it was after they had came out of Siren's spell and they are worried about what they will tell their wives. Then Batman suggests that they tell their wives that they were working on a top secret case. It was something like that, if I'm thinking of the right episode. |

I am looking forward to this new show, any time someone tries to do a live action superhero series, believe me, I'm there.
But.... I've heard some pretty bad things about the show. From what i've heard, they've redone the pilot a bunch of times, trying to get it right I guess, and after viewing the first few completed episodes, the network was unhappy with the dark dreary atmosphere of the episodes, so they're trying to brighten the tone of the show. In other words, less Tim Burton - more Joel Shumacker. And we know what happened to the Batman franchise when they brought in Shumacker... I still have hopes, but I am not getting them up too high...

If you are taping the Birds of Prey show, be sure to read about how long it is in this article:WB Goes Long with 'Birds of Prey' Debut
Tue, Oct 1, 2002 01:56 PM PDT LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - The premiere of The WB's new series "Birds of Prey" can't be contained in a single hour. Whether that's good or bad will be left to viewers to decide when the show premieres Wednesday, Oct. 9. But those planning on recording it should know that the premiere will run for an hour and eight minutes. "Birds of Prey," based on the DC Comics title, tells the story of a trio of female crime fighters in New Gotham. Batman has left the city after his true love, Catwoman, is murdered and his protégée, Batgirl (Barbara Gordon), is crippled by a bullet from the Joker. Several years later, Gordon (played by Dina Meyer), who now goes by the name Oracle, operates a huge high-tech center that tracks criminals, while her partner, Huntress, does the physical work. Huntress is the nom de superhero of Helena Kyle (Ashley Scott), the daughter of Batman and Catwoman. They're joined by Dinah (Rachel Skarsten), a teenager with psychic abilities. The explanation of that back story is part of the reason for the extra length of the premiere. The original pilot dealt with it rather quickly. "Birds of Prey" is part of a mini-trend of premieres and special episodes of shows running longer than their normally scheduled times. The debut of "Everwood" ran an extra 10 minutes this year, as did the first episodes of "Smallville" and "Alias" -- the latter commercial-free -- last season. The musical episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" also ran long in its initial airing. http://tv.zap2it.com/news/tvnewsdaily.html?28281 |

I was checking scifi.com for schedules, but came across this Birds of Prey interview. It's kind of long, so here's the link:

In just 2 days Birds of Prey premieres!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!! Anyone looking forward to it? Anyone, besides me, going to record it? I hope, that within time, Barbara becomes Batgirl again and doesn't stay in that wheelchair. I wonder what kind of villains this show will have. I never read or seen a Birds of Prey comic book so I wouldn't know.

I'm excited about it as well, and will definitely be taping it. The main villain is Harley Quinn, Joker's girlfriend from the Animated series (and other places, LOL, can't remember them all). It's actually Dr. Harleen Quinzel, or something along that lines. She's - get this - a psychiatrist.
I have no idea on any other villains. Joker will most likely be making appearances, but the guy playing him will have a different voice. Mark Hamill, who did the voices for the cartoons, will voice the Joker, but someone else will be his body. There will also be several flashbacks of Barbara as Batgirl, but she'll most likely remain Oracle. It would be really cool to see Batman show up, maybe in a season or two (if the show is still on) because there are so many loose ends left... And I also think, if the writers play this right, and don't actually show Catwoman dead, they could bring her back as well. All in all, I can't wait, I hope it does well. But I honestly have my doubts... |

Look at Smallville and how stupid that is. WB kept that. Just curious is that 3rd or 4th Superman spin off since the 50's Superman? Anyways I think it will do good. Here are spoilers and airdates for upcoming episodes: Pilot (Oct. 9) The Batman legend takes an unexpected turn when the Caped Crusader vanishes from the crime-ridden city of New Gotham and his legacy is taken over by a trio of beautiful and relentless heroines - the Birds of Prey. Barbara Gordon started out as Batman's protege, Batgirl, but an attack by The Joker left her confined to a wheelchair. Reinventing herself as Oracle, she takes under her wing Helena Kyle, the secret daughter of Batman and Catwoman, who quickly grows into the fierce and beautiful "Huntress," and Dinah, a teenage runaway who is drawn to the city by meta-human visions. With the help of the only honest cop in New Gotham, Detective Jesse Reese, the Birds of Prey fight their first battle against a mysterious madwoman who is bent on their destruction. Slick (Oct. 16) Slick, an evil meta-human who can turn from solid to liquid, is hired by Dr. Quinn to kill the honest cops who stand in her way. When Reese is the next intended victim, Helena comes to his aid and their mutual attraction continues to grow. Meanwhile, Barbara believes Dinah’s story that she’s just a runaway, but Helena remains suspicious. Prey for the Hunter (Oct. 23) Helena and Detective Reese clash again when they both try to track down a serial killer who destroys metahumans by taking on their powers. Meanwhile, Dinah ditches school when she learns from Helena there is a metahuman-only bar, and Barbara meets Wade’s parents who think she is not normal enough for their son. Sins of the Mother (Nov. 6) Dinah's mother, Carolyn, comes to town to find her daughter, but the past comes back to haunt both women when the head of a crime family that Carolyn took down in her years as the Black Canary comes after them. Dinah must fight to save the mother she's never really known before she loses the chance completely. Helena wonders about her own mother's past, and about the secrets that the Canary could reveal to her, while Barbara tries to bring all the women together to cooperate before the past destroys them all. Primal Scream (Nov. 13) Colin, a friend of Helena's, re-enters her life, but with a secret agenda that could do her more harm than help. Under the instruction of one Harley Quinn, Colin pushes Helena into walking in her mother's footsteps and turning from a force of good into a criminal. Meanwhile, Detective Reese deals with the fact that his family is still torn apart by his father's insidious past. |

Yeah, Smallville is the 2nd highest rated show for the WB. It gets pretty impressive ratings (for the WB, that is).
(Top Rated WB shows) 1st - 7th Heaven 2nd - Smallville 3rd - Gilmore Girls 4th - Reba I could be wrong, because I'm not sure about Angel or Charmed's ratings this season... Anyway, Smallville is one of the best Superman spin offs. I totally love it. What's stupid about it? I mean, if you don't like it, that's fine by me, I just don't see what's stupid about it. But Birds of Prey looks good, but I mean, look at Smallville, no cape, tights, etc. and it does pretty well, BOP will have suits, etc. So, who knows how it will do. I hope it does well, but I still have my doubts. |
